VodafoneDylan: I've been following this up but do not yet have any further information. As soon as I do I'll reply again.
Dylan, wouldn't it just be easier & quicker for all and sundry to just come out and say, "Vodafone do not care about Gigatown, and would prefer to pretend it doesn't exist" ?

if you are that unhappy change ISP's.

Yip, in the process of doing so at the moment. Was prepared to give VF the benefit of the doubt to save the hassle of moving, but they're essentially taking the piss. Orcon or myRepublic here I come, just need to decide.

I was updated on Friday and it's very close, Final stages / testing are getting done now,

It's taken bit longer due to testing and making sure it's works as it should

No one is telling BS, Further testing of hardware (not on core side) had to be tested before public launch

Imagine launching a plan that wasn't even tested.

There would be a lot more complaints and posts.

Imagine taking 4 months to launch and test your plans. How hard is it? The other ISPs in Dunedin managed it. Vodafones total lack of meaningful communication is frustrating.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

To offer Gigatown it's more than just a plan change

well do you want them to end up with issues like they are having with the HFC network? where they have huge slow downs in peak times or would you like a fast faultless network?

Vodafone probably have a lot more customers than all the other ISP's (bar maybe spark) so they need to make sure their local newtork can handle all their customers should have happen to want Gbit internet.

just wait, its not the end of the world that you cant have it now, you just end up sounding like a small child who cant have their desert till after they finish their dinner, when they just want it now.

Well thats me put in my place. :)  For the record I was talking about Vodafones lack of communication about this. After months of hype Dunedin won this thing in November last year. Go live date was announced as February 25th from memory. Vodafone siad nothing till February 24th then put up their one and  only official communication on their website stating that users on their Ultrafast 100  plan would be updated when they were ready. Since then there have been a series of unofficial posts on the Vodafone communiity saying things like April is not far away etc but giving no meaningful information about a start date. The goal post keeps moving. Even Spark customers have been up and running for over a month.  I don't need these speeds but I thought it might be a bit of fun to have them so upgraded my plan in February. This tied me back into another contract with Vodafone which is wone of the reasons I haven't bailed on them. I'm guessing Jase2985 that you are not in  Dunedin and can't access these speeds yourself. In keeping with the theme of your  post you are starting to sound like the little boy who wasn't invited to the party. I was invited but so far its been a big disappointment. :)

So you are learning that in the Telco world there is often a huge disconnect between the marketing department and the technical department. This is the way it has always been in the 20 years Ive been doing this and its unlikley to change any time soon.

no im not in dunedin, i dont even have access to UFB but thats far from the point. i understand the technical difficulties involved in something like this, which you seem to be missing. its not just as easy as flicking a switch.

and yes vodafone could be a bit better in informing their customers, but they havent so you just have to live with that, dont like it, change ISP's, cant change ISP's cause you just locked yourself into a new contract, well cant blame anyone else for that can you

I wasn't invited to the party, but i didn't even want to be invited :) big difference.

all you can do is wait, dont worry about it, just be happy you have UFB where others dont.

Hi everyone

Our Gigatown plans are now live.

Existing customers will be moved to the Gigatown plans at their next monthly billing cycle. I understand there'll be an email soon with more details.

New customers can sign up to a Gigatown plan by calling the sales team, and the plans will also be available to purchase at our site in the next week or so.

There's more information on the site at http://www.vodafone.co.nz/gigatown/

Thanks for your patience.

Dylan

Edit - changed "plan renewal" to "monthly billing cycle".

Well that's good to hear otherwise I was going to leave in 3 months (after 5 years) when UFB is live and change to spark as they had the service.

WTF, so you are saying the LIED during the last 6 months. The gigatown page said that "you will be upgraded to gigabit speed once we announce plans", but now you are saying people that signed up will have to wait until the end of their contact before being able to upgrade? That is even MORE insulting than vodafone  staff to customers over the last year,(and that saying something!).
