PenultimateHop: There are other components in the UBS network that provide rate limiting, not just the DSLAM port. Even with ADSL2plus profiles enabled, it's very possible to have an 8Mbps ratelimit configured at the LAC.

Additionally, exchanges won't have ADSL2plus profiles configured on the DSLAM ports (never mind the LAC) until all ports at that exchange are migrated.

Bingo, finally someone who understands how it all works. My one connection (non xnet one) has a sync rate of 4mbps but still have a older 2mbps plan and get capped right bang on 2mbps. My ADSL profile for that connection at the port is ADSL2+ HSI FS/128.

so yes they do have options when it comes to limiting speeds... The only thing that doesnt make any sense in this case is xnet continuing to advertise FS as full line rate when they know full well its not. Shurly they can edit their website.

pitty this wasnt USA. we'd all be off to find a lawyer.

If this was the USA, all/most of the ISP's would be traffic shaping, forging packets, forwarding all data to the NSA, and providing the bare minimum customer service...

ADSL2+ is not yet launched! Yes, there are a lot of exchanges with ADSL2+ enabled, but it is not yet official. It is still being commissioned. It is like complaining about hick-ups on Freeview HD before it will be launched. There will be a reason why you do not get more than ADSL1 speed at this stage.

I think that the point is the claims are that they are saying as fast as your line will go, and not saying upto xxmbps or stating that its DSL1.

As people get migrated over to DSL2+, their line speeds jump up in many cases and people are wondering if their lines are syncing at 15mbps why they are only getting ~7.6mbps throughput. As far as your line will go suggests that they'd get around the 15mbps mark unless other factors such as congestion affected it.

I'm not complaining about not getting the ADSL2+ speeds dispite having the sync rates as I know Xnet have not advertised a ADSL2+ product. I'm just a little interested in the reasons/excuses given.
I know full well which others ISP's are NOT limiting their customers as this is the default setting for the ADSL2 HSI FS/xxx profile.

This is mearly a 'heads-up' that Xnet might want to adjust their marketing material to reflect their business opperations. Its about managing customers expectations and terms such as "as fast as your line can go" should quite literally mean that.

You can call it tall poppy syndrome if you like, but I'm just pointing out the facts.
