got a msg from VF

"We are upgrading all customers that are on ADSL and can get VDSL to VDSL for free. With this upgrade, we have sent out letters to everyone who is eligible for an upgrade. "

As suspected... guess the letter sending didnt go smooth eh?

Coil:

Most likely not. You will need a VDSL certified one, Generally it will limit you to 24mb/s

Normally the hit is actually in the upstream.

Technically speaking, ADSL splitters should work just as well due to how they are connected but YMMV.

Chorusnz:

With All things there's always room for improvement, From a broadband provider's point, the scenario you sated would need to go through their escalation channels as there is a conflict of thought as to were the fault lies and the potential for a charge to be passed on to a customer. Techs Are only human, we can all miss things now and again and misdiagnose the situation.

My personal view is that a fault should always be proven out of the Chorus network before the we start looking at other area’s ^Mike

Absolutely agree, Simply Don't like the fact that they tell customers you were meant to get one - Chorus also have a database of what customers have splitters installed by techs afterall.

I probably should have pointed out, cases where escalated. is more of a general training gap really.. Raising awareness to you guys too :)

sadly most of this relates around a certain contracting company (as does much of the rushed/misdiagnosed and shady jobs...).

update for people who would like to know

turns out vodafone requested to be changes from adsl2+ to vdsl

they should of gave me some notice

i did not request it to be change or rang vf in the last 6 months

(i was going to upgrade but never got around to it )

i haven't got any installer coming out to do any thing

and i'm on naked so i think they don't need to but if i have any problems i will get VF on to it

i was getting around 10mbps now i get about 20 mbps

Have been following this thread, I'm in a similar situation.

I had ADSL with VF. Was overseas for two months, got home two weeks ago and had a couple letters from VF with marketing material saying they had doen a plan check and were upgrading me to VDSL for free, and I didn't need to do anything. I had to contact them if I didn't want it.

Like you, I had wanted to upgrade but had never got around to it. I received a HG659, installed it, then a couple of days ago when I happened to be working from home I had a roughly 10 minute outage and when I reconnected noticed I was on VDSL. Like you my speed has increased significantly despite not having a master filter, and what I believe to be some pretty bad, daisy chained POTS wiring in my house. I'm on a naked plan though.

All in all I'm happy, free upgrade for no effort. Would be a different story if my service got worse but everything seems ok for now. Not that it really matters as the fibre rollout was recently completed in my street and I'm just waiting to be connected now.

Perhaps you also received the initial marketing letters? Any chance you missed them or binned them straight away? I definitely got some letters beforehand, so knew this was happening, just not exactly when.

Hm, are you indicating vodafone shipped the HG659 and waiting for you to plug it in before pushing through the upgrade?

Clean up the daisy chained wiring and you should be looking even better!

Still surprised this is the first any of the cases hit GZ!
