I'm actually suprised that Blackberry wasn't mentioned at all :P

The newer devices like the Bold are absolutely beautiful and have very good feature set. they sync with your MAC via Pocketmac or depending on if you pick up a Blackberry data plan you can also wirelessly reconcile email/calendar on the go!

Blackberry I believe is offered by both at the moment..

The Bold is a 3g device which does not use the CDMA technology tree which Telecom currently use.

Keep an eye out it should be released shortly worldwide

The blackberry's require a purchase of an additional monthly $35 RIM licence for any data/email use on Vodafone so they are expensive for upkeep compared to other devices. In saying that though the 8310 is an amazing phone with a FANTASTIC GPS unit. Probably the most reliable line of handsets ever.

Seriously if you want the iPhone eye candy, get an iPhone. If you want some functionality that you must live with such as Office document support, get a Windows Mobile.

I can fully support that comment! I just activated my new iPhone today and after just the first day of tinkering I know I have to get rid of it and back to a windows mobile device asap. I was wooed by the flashy eye candy but didn't realise there was so little substance under it!

How far away is VF from offering this HTC touch pro???? and how much? I know theres were issues with hardware coming from overseas when i was last on Vodafone here, is that still the case? Could I import a HTC touch pro and use it fully here (minus vodafone live of course, that I wouldn't want anyway)?

please tell me if anyone wants a brand new iPhone??? I want out!

I wanted a touch pro as well.. I spoke with a business today that will be supplying them, and his mark was around 1100-1300NZD.

Although, what kind of price are you looking for, for your iPhone? and is it the 8GB or 16gb?

Well depending on the data you access.. you can access the Internet via the Vlive browser eitherway.. but If you want to purchass a BB definately get a plan the devices do tend to limp along otherwise..

Spawneh, that browser is a fickle one. I find it works out of the box but as soon as account settings change or you upgrade the software (or sometimes even change the sim), the browser disappears and solutions support refuses to resend the service books without the BB access fee.

I always say a bb without a plan is a lemon anyway :(

but then again a device progammed and built to use that apn without it will always struggle.

In real life? CDMA EVDO Rev 0 is much faster than WCDMA. HSDPA should be faster but the experience I had using the vodem and the XU Express Card is just about the same as the CDMA EVDO Rev A.

Yes, but have you upgraded the firmware for the vodem to accept 7.2Mbit speeds? As I understand it, Vodafone's 7.2Mbit upgrade is now active & the Vodem can perform at upto 7.2Mbit HSDPA speed, with the Firmware upgrade, but it can't do HSUPA, other devices are coming out soon, that do both HSDPA/HSUPA speeds, as you know HSUPA has a theoretical MAX of 5.6Mbit upload speed, with * real-world* performace of up to 2Mbit upload. As far as I am aware Telecom's current network does not perform close to these speeds, at least as far as the Download speed is concerned, I understand the CDMA Rev A Network can reach up to 1.8Mbit upload however, but Download speeds are well shigh of the current 7.2Mbit Vodafone are offering. Also, as I understand it, Telecom's upcoming GSM/HSDPA Network with EDGE/GPRS capability, will only initially operate in Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch/Dunedin, but I could be wrong, however Vodafone have deployed a lot of new sites in the 900Mhz range, for their "Extended Rural Network", which provides 3G Broadband speeds, where Telecom simply don't offer any coverage at all, via their current high speed CDMA/Rev A Network. Not forgetting of course, that Vodafone have pledged to have all current 2G Covergae switched over to 3G coverage by mid 2010 in New Zealand. As for devices, the Nokia e71-1, which is 900Mhz capable, as well as having a 3.2Megapixel Camera & GPS built in, can be purchased from a dealer on Trade Me for around $780 or so. This phone has had rave reviews!
