Maybe have XN users opt to have 50% of that space 'donated' to a mirror hosting solution for those customers?

Take it all! I'm not going to use it!

That's my reasoning exactly.

I think every XN user is allotted 100MB; goes either to your IMAP mailbox, or "personal web space". whatever
I'm pretty sure 90% of XN users are either unaware of this fact, or like me or yourself, simply don't care.
I may use maybe 10 meg; a few status mail messages, maybe an HTML page or 2.
Other than that I'll only use the POP, IMAP & SMTP servers for protocol-specific testing purposes.

It will also be simpler from the XN server side to restrict access to local users, that me trying to come up & maintain such a service.

There may also be no effective way to restrict access to local users only from my end.

The XN moderator may correct me on these points, or add his 2c's worth

Id be happy to donate a brand new 500gig SATA drive or two towards a server as well. No reason it should be SAS or anything special as you can live with the data loss if something fails just set it up again later and redownload everything.

As for my 100MB again take it :) I dont even use xnet email services.

i'm in contact with the "powers that be" @ the ISP.

i would suggest to other users serious about this request to put a word in @ their contact @ XNet/WorldExchange.
they won't do it if there's not demand
maybe ask the moderator of this particular section of the forum to set up a poll & provide the means of a petition to get this (*flightless*) bird off the ground

Users get 10MB allotment, not 100.

Notwithstanding...

Will probably still only need to use only a fraction of that (XN auto mail systems)

Understand users get an allocation of 10MB for personal web space, and 100MB for emails. 110 MB total.

I believe an xnet setup mirror would still be the simplest solution.

I've contacted them with this:

feel free to send it on yourselves or change it. It's not the best but at least it lets em know how I/we feel about a local Ubuntu repo. mirror.

Has anyone had any feedback from XN on this issue?
Anything to inticate they've acknowledged the request. or at least "taking it under advisement"
