Wow, calm the farm people!  It's $3.  That's about 41c per week.  Jeesh.  I am sure there are bigger things to get in a uproar about than such a piddly amount.

Sorry but I really do resent this type of argument.... $3 increase here, and a $3 increase there will eventually turn out to be a $100 total increase everywhere!

I agree. I don't struggle financially, but any decent budget advisor will tell you that there are long term financial consequences from expense creep like this.

For $1 I would probably let it go, but if I were subject to the $3 increase then I would at least look around the market and see if there is a better deal available.

I havent recieved any communication from Vodafone regarding this. Im on their more pricy Vodafone TV ufb bundle.

Its a relatively small 3% increase for me but if all my essentially goods and services cost increases by 3% this year i would notice.

Perhaps they can spend this increase on updating their billing software so I can finally move to FibreMax while keeping my old Vodafone TV.

I was told by Vodafone that wasn't a billing issue, just a policy decision, because I could keep it as long as I continued to pay for SkyTV.

I’d be inclined to go with the reason you were given. When initially told of the reason my nose immediately twitched and I smelt a strong odor of B.S. The day I’m forced away from the old Vodafone TV is the day I leave Vodafone.

its called death by thousand cuts, skytv used to do little increases every year until its customer churn (and good competition) forced them to re-think products/pricing structure.

Customers will suck it up for so long then whamo!!!!! where did all our customers go?..................oh we need to get our customer base back up. Run a special rate for new customers........classic stuff.

I was wondering how this change was communicated... looking at the bill sent (for me) at the start of December, it's right there in the messaging box on the first page:

A little meek, but it is 2 months notice of change even if it's quietly announced. Bills are a terrible way of informing people of changing prices, but they are much less provocative than more overt tactics that serve aggravate... and rising prices always cause aggro.

As for why... well, that's just normal business cycle stuff. the fibre companies are allowed to raise the price of UFB circuits at wholesale by a set amount every year in the legislation, and from what I can tell they aren't failing on that element. Whether it's passed on to the consumer is the RSP's choice, and I'm sure some are absorbing it under the concept of good customer service.

It is a little unusual for the tier 1's just to jack the existing prices up rather than hide the cost rise inside a new proposition (which features new pricing etc), but there you go. According to Mr Strecker, the price rise of $3 affects 400k houses, so an extra $1.2m/month will be welcome. Whether it leads to anything better from voda or just covers their normal rising costs...

Just as I did with my mobile plan. Fortunately for the last few years Vodafone have had outstanding offers across the mobile space but here is how I work out the value to me.

I just upgraded to the latest offering from Vodafone and my monthly price is $99.00. The prices in brackets are the free components value over a 12 month period and this reflect my requirements so your requirement may vary but the sharing is the nail in the coffin for spark.

22GB of data
1 plan sharer for free ($240)
Unlimited text/phone
Free social Data/Chat data (Might save me 20% of my data?)
1 year free Netflix ($180)

Monthly fee: $99
Cost for 12 months: $1200
Free value: $440

Cost to me: $760 per year

This is the Spark offering, The prices in brackets are the free components value over a 12 month period.

22GB of data before Dial Up..
Unlimited text/phone
Free WiFi (1GB day) around phone boxes
Spotify (12 months $180, No use to me)
Lightbox (12 months $156)
Add on sharing plan $20p/m

Monthly fee: $99
Add ons: $20
Cost for 12 months: $1440
Free Value: $336

Cost to me: $1104

You can see where it makes sense for me to take my business.

Chorus price increases have nothing to do with retail prices on the HFC network which is owned by vfone.

Just received my bill today and looks like my ultimate tv package will increase by 3 dollars from Feb. But it seems they are waiving the termination charges if you are in a contract.

https://www.vodafone.co.nz/broadbandpricechange/
If you are in a fixed term contract prior to 1 February and wish to disconnect your services because of the price increase, you are able to end your contract early with no Early Termination Charge

Bye bye Vodafone.

Switching to bigpipe.

@zyo Looks like you are correct, I was not expecting that!

What if I am currently within the period covered by a fixed term contract but I wish to end my contract as a result of the price change?

I'd assume they ran the proposed price increase through their legal counsel and decided it wasn't worth the public backlash as well as possible Comcom penalty to increase price without releasing customers from their contracts (I understand they reserve the right to do that when we agreed to T&C but generally speaking this could be a grey area whether this is legally allowed).

It does seem Vodafone is breaking their own T&C if they are trying to put the price up for Feb

https://www.vodafone.co.nz/legal/terms-conditions/general/

b) If we consider that the change will have a detrimental effect on you:

  1. we will give you 30 days’ notice of the change or, where that is not possible, as much notice as possible;

Obviously not even close to 30 days from today (11st Jan til the Feb billing cycle)

I will be in touch with Vodafone regarding how I am suppose to give them 30 day notice when they didn't even follow their T&Cs.
