I've taken issue with VF double dipping on shared data since they launched $5 roaming. Why should somebody who has a free tablet share SIM tied to their account have to pay twice?

The problem with shared family plans is that while they're based off the same concept they're not really the same thing.

Either way Vodafone don't have the ability in their billing system to easily make changes so they don't charge the fee to every device that roams.

You obviously had trouble with the explanation. Jason said he was aware things weren't working well at VF right now (and they are well aware of it) and asked for some *time* to get things on track. You throwing digs in every chance you get in the meantime, in every topic mentioning VF is tiresome, not helpful and lowers the tone of the discussion. Give them some time (months) and see if things are on the improve.

No trouble with the explanation, where in my original post am I throwing a dig? I’m simply asking if anyone has any info as Vodafone are unable to provide requested info.

Your understanding of a dig is misguided, as a paying Vodafone customer I’m more than entitled to ask for info if they send me a broken link on a invoice and fail to provide info when requested via phone or online chat.

What lowers the tone of a discussion are members such as yourself contributing nothing to a discussion apart from finger pointing and suggesting of so called ‘dig throwing’ whenever someone creates a post asking for information which is a basic paying customer expectation.
I don’t see anything in this discussion where you have provided any info of value to my original query.

Planning to go overseas in October. Was weighting up my options between (1) getting a SIM in the first country I'm travelling in which also happens to have several competitive networks with excellent roaming pricing options to neighbouring countries I'm travelling through or (2) porting over to Vodafone for the month and using their roaming plans. Guess I'll just get a SIM now as the cost increase makes roaming even more expensive than it was previously and not worth the benefits/tradeoffs.

My daughter travels to one of the new countries on a school trip arriving 6 July - can someone from Vodafone confirm that the new countries aren't available for daily roaming until July 11, or hopefully they're available as from now?

Wow that's a 40% increase, well beyond inflation or anything like that. That will mount up quite a lot if you are spending a few weeks travelling. I think i'll be going back to getting a local Sim card wherever I travel to.

@sbiddle I too have a tablet sim on my plan, and get charged twice for using both phone and tablet overseas.

It is what it is, but it does grate.

Yeah, I think 2 devices per person isn't unreasonable. However, PEOPLE should be charged the fee each IMO.

Completely unworkable. How would Vodafone know if the person passes the tablet to another person to use ...

for an hour?

for a day?

for a week?

You can't stop abuse if people are prepared to go to lengths to circumvent and be dishonest about it. Perhaps the current system is the best way to avoid it. Some bad eggs ruin it for everyone.

Thing is, when I am away, my wife and I each get charged $7, we often want to communicate with each other if we aren't together, so texting or calling somewheres where wifi isn't immediately available, so $7  x 2 is the price we pay.

If however, I am away on my own, and I have a phone and tablet, using both shouldn't cost me $14, but a tablet, wouldn't be a practical alternative to my wife and my communication requirements.

Well it looks like my main reason for choosing VF originally is now up for reassessment.  Let's see - on a 30 day overseas trip my roaming charge will now be $210 instead of $150.  Mr VF has now given me the basis for an evaluation all the other options available to me.  Thank you!

Agree, for us the $5 roaming was a no-brainer over competitors. Now two of us travelling for a month is $120 more expensive, so will revisit 2Degrees or Spark for comparison when contract rolls around.

The option for those who want to stay with VF is of course to switch to Prepay for your trips away or to use a Prepay SIM for your roaming. As I pointed out in my blog post depending on your travel requirements and time away their Prepay roaming prices are already over 50% cheaper than using $5 roaming if you're an average user - for $19 on Prepay you get 1GB data, 100 mins and 100 SMS valid for 7 days.

Really? For me $60 over a 30 day holiday isn't really even a rounding error on my other costs. I understand not everyone spends the same on holiday, but surely, even for the most thrify among us, it would be fairly similar? I mean, I am not *thrilled* at the price increase, but I'd hardly change providers over it.
