I've just seen Android handles SIP natively, I'll give that a go.

or just a sip cordless phone (eg yealink)

Keen to know how you got on... I have a mother-in-law who needs to get rid of her landline but has so many older people that only know her landline.

I didn't get around to implementing due to covid-19.  However I intend to

Port his landline number to 2Talk then use the native SIP client on Android.

That way people can contact him via his mobile or landline number and he can dial out via standard mobile number.

I've tested this on my own Android phone, it works a treat and will be invisible to him.

I think probably part of the reason it's not offered as much anymore as it is required to be provisioned in TPII, compared with just provisioning as usual in Siebel, and probably the uptake not being that high to justify it.

Thanks for this. we're on 2Talk for our work landline so familiar with them. I'll have a look.

What app on Android? My mother-in-law is on an older iPhone so will look into sip clients for iOS.

In the native Android dialler you can insert sip details. No need for an app.

Why not get a landline (well, just a normal phone) added to the router?  Isn’t that what they do for rural broadband?

OP it’s great you’ve found a solution.

I’m very surprised though that Vodafone gave you the runaround on this though - landline on mobile is an advertised feature of the current business endless data plan ($80 incl / $69.56 excl GST), prominently featured on the website.

Additionally I had a feeling a friend of mine was using this feature, so I asked and sure enough he is.

From https://www.vodafone.co.nz/business/mobile-plans/:
“ Free local number. Included in all Business mobile plans, get a landline number for your mobile e.g. an 03, 04, 06, 07 or 09 on your 021 so your customers can reach you without paying for a mobile call.”
