whats the chance that every torrenter started their machine just before 12?.

Its called a scheduler and almost all torrent clients have them.  The machines didn't get turned on at 12, they just started torrenting the second that the clock ticked over, and most people have their pc clocked synced with an international server.

Personally I can handle the offpeak traffic being crap, its coming home and finding at 6pm that ping has become terrible that is frustrating.  Xnet had a massive performance increase when they first released the torrent plan, but now they seem to have let things slide to the extent that people on torrent plans are downloading in peak time.

That said, I've been told by tech support that the vast majority of bandwidth usage in peak times is by people not on the Torrent plan, so it would seem they just need to add sufficient bandwidth for their customer base.

yeah i know what a scheduler is i have rtorrent scheduled, usually, although lately i havent bothered it just makes the connection worse (if thats even possible to get worse than less than a 33k modem). but im talking about the very second it clicked 12 it started buffering, just seemed weird to be _that_ fast

Well, after giving Xnet too much slack I have given up. I go to Telecom in a couple of days. I can't remember when I could stream Youtube in the evening or get reasonable file download speeds. I am not a torrenter and only use 2GB per month so I'm not part of the problem.

Was at my friend's place last night (on Telecom Xtra) and YT was great. Speedtest to LA was 2,830. With Xnet, speed is 300-500 and YT usually buffers every second!!.  No problem during the day but that is not good enough I am afraid.

Does Xtra do naked DSL? I'm not seeing it on their site.

Uggg - I can't even check my email or load international websites right now. WxC - you should be giving me back my money for ALL of this month! But you won't and you won't be changing the description of the Torrent plan to reflect reality. It's not even good for torrents! NOTHING works! There's no point in suggesting at least Torrents will work - they don't!

I've asked to be switched back to the regular plan until I find another decent naked DSL plan (Ralph from Snap never got back to me), and I HOPE things are a tiny bit better than they are now :-(

Even this national website won't finish loading, though pages seem to load just enough for me to post thank goodness.

Hmm...for the last 3 days I try starting my download at around 11:55pm (usenet) to check what will be the speed performance and what will happen after 12mn.

11:55pm download speed was so good ~ 350 KB/s
12mn as soon as it reaches 12mn within a second or 2 my download speed started to drop and within a minute it stabilize at ~ 6KB/s.  This was for the last 3 days..... Oh men, what are you doing wxc......Yell and I been using usenet not torrent.....Cry

Tamulmol (and others), any chance you have something like Metacafe installed?  People might not be aware that it is a torrenting program, or that quitting the program (and the tray icon) does not stop the torrent service.  I do not know if uninstalling it will uninstall the torrent service, but you can manually disable it.

No they don't.  I don't think they ever will.  Naked DSL removes the need for a phone line, which is less revenue for them, so it would be counter initiutive to offer.
