@Bramwell Now we know why WiFi calling was not working if you were not on iOS 15.x

VodafoneNZ should of advised this first off get onto iOS 15

Poor poor customer service

They do advise you.

https://www.vodafone.co.nz/our-networks/wifi-calling/

Check the iPhone section.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  😄  Yes you're right, it's on their website but who actually ever checks out the website?  Surely it would have been better for Vodafone to contact their customers directly via email or text to detail what they need to do in order to get up and running.

Aside from that even though I've updated my phone and my iPhone 8 is on their list, WIFI calling on my cell is hopeless.  I can't have a conversation on it - we can't hear each other.

Cheers, Chrissie :-)

Thanks, my phone is updated to iOS 15 now and WIFI calling is enabled but WIFI calling is still rubbish - no way can I have a conversation on it.

What's the quality of your Internet? Speeds? I've mentioned before but what kind of connection do you have?

bramwell:

Another query - why is it that when our internet is down, that the landline still works, given that it is now running on WIFI?

It will depend on what kind of connection you have.

We are on Vodafone Broadband which I think out here is a DSL.  We live rurally so no fibre out here.  It's not rural wireless.  Vodafone's 'Farmside' tower is at full capacity already and people are on the waitlist

If it is indeed DSL then you would be able to share modem stats with us. I suspect the connection is just not fast enough.

If you have DSL (which seems to be case), it's very possible that a landline phone continues to work when the Internet is down, as they aren't related.

If the stats show a problem it could be a series of factors, all impacting Internet services - and ultimately making WiFi calling quality not ideal.

Until we know more about your connection, no one will be able to say for sure.

You need to be running iOS 15 to get VF WiFi Calling. I'd also make sure it can update it's carrier package to the very latest(I think it's at 48 or 49?).

Thanks for your help.  I'm up and running with iOS 15 and have WIFI calling enabled.  I can call out on my cellphone via WIFI but no-one can hear me!  😆  Would you be able to please help me with updating to Vodafone's latest carrier package?  Thanks again

Cheers, Chrissie :-)

Yes as I understand it our internet connection is very slow, according to the Vodafone techies.

Thanks for explaining that the landline WIFI and internet are not related.  I don't understand why, but very pleased to know that even when our internet is down, we will still be able to make calls.

Cheers, Chrissie :-)

You already have the latest if you're on iOS 15. The fact that no one can hear you is a new problem and I would be logging a fault. This isn't a handset or DSL connection issue(I say this because this worked up until sure signal went dead and I imagine this works just fine if you were to make a call when in range of a tower).

@Linux the fact that the first reply to op wasn't to update to iOS 15 via vfnz customer service rep is pretty shoddy.
More training required and perhaps reps actually reading.

Linux: What is your internet like peak time what speed would you get down & uplink and latency?

For the past few weeks our internet has been terrible at all times (off more often rather than on) but Vodafone assure me that this was due to a fault which has been repaired over the last couple of days and I must say the internet has been much improved.  So I can't really say with any certainty at this stage what the peak-times service is like until it's been running properly again for a few days.

As for what speed link we would get down & uplink and latency ... that's way above my head!  😆

Follow this to log in and have a look around for line statistics - things like Mbps and dBs etc. then post that.
