Hi so just to repeat, yes you can unofficially get more than one WAN in a Voda HFC cable connection.

You cannot do the same on a Chorus ONT without ordering a second connection.

End of story, no arguments as there is nothing more.

The problem is that the person living here wants landline to landline calling. Seniors. Each can call the other by landline as much as they want without having to worry about any additional charges (or at least for a flat rate).

Back to the basics: what are you trying to achieve?

No, you are not trying to use the second port or a different router in the network. You are trying to save on phone call cost.

Using a technical solution sounds like something that could help but overall won't give you the most savings.

Paying for a fixed number service with the justification that they can call each other as much as they want is a false dichotomy. This option gives you unlimited local calls but no national calls, no international calls and certainly it's limited in where it can be used. The Vodafone landline number on broadband costs $10/month and you pay extra for national calls, call to mobile and international calls.

A mobile plan these days include unlimited local, national and sometimes overseas (mainly Australia) calls. These include calls to New Zealand mobile as well.

A Vodafone mobile prepaid with unlimited voice calls, low SMS number and almost no mobile data costs $25/month.

Check how much you actually pay for the monthly landline use and might be cheaper to just use mobile phones. You can get cheaper phones with big numbers - you don't need a smartphone for your seniors.

Heck if they even wanted it to be a "landline" (just with an 021 number) you could get an LTE to FXS gateway and still be better off

I can't remember exact model but a quick search shows there are four models on PB Tech, the cheapest one Uniden XDECT8315 cordless phone, Bluetooth pair up to 4 mobile phones,... ( XDECT8315 ) online - PBTech.co.nz
