And right on time - Kogan is doing 50% off, see this thread https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=164&topicid=302370

And you can use this for renewals, not just new connections!

Just be aware that they must be activated by 31 December.

My number was finally ported today. I had bought the $5 15GB pack and also the $165 large. The port took so long and I was running out of data on my Vodafone SIM but luckily my OP9 phone has two SIM trays so I kept the VF SIM in one tray and the Kogan in the second and set it to use the Kogan SIM for data. No problems with data get 5G where available (not surprising I guess since they are a VF MVNO).

I have VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling turned on but can't really check.

Towards the end of December I will apply the large voucher and I will be set for data for 12 months.

I’m with Kogan Aus and very happy. One gotcha for me recently was that there is no roaming in South Africa. The roaming countries seem to be pretty limited to be honest. But only a gotcha if you travel a lot.

Kogan NZ has a fairly extensive roaming list of countries.

I must admit I rarely roamed preferring to get a prepaid SIM from the country I was in.

I would call out that they do NOT support texting or calling premium numbers, so if you use providers or services that text you from a shortcode and expect a response, you're SOL. Not even an option to add $5 credit to pay for them or anything. This is the reason we're moving back off them, it's counter-useful for me to have to go back to phoning places back to confirm everything when a text would work. Value seemed good otherwise.

so i've bought the BOGOF and will switch over on 31 Dec and port my number

so can't reply to these texts but nobody has heard of anybody on GZ having issue with receiving 4 digit SMS correct

The half price deal is on again.

And encountered my first experience with not being able to respond to short SMS. Pharmacy texted me to ask if I wanted a repeat and to reply YES or NO. Reply could not be sent so I had to call the pharmacy directly, speak to somebody and confirm I wanted the repeat.

Anybody know the technical reason why cannot reply to short SMS?

@lchiu7 You can't reply as they are charged SMS and you don't actually have a balance. It was the way it was designed to work

Not 100% I understand that since on my on account plan I had unlimited SMS so messages to short codes will not charge. And on the Kogan plan it says unlimited SMS too.
so why would it charge for SMS to a short-code?

Some shortcodes are free to text. Some are charged ‘text rates’ (eg. 20c). Some are charged more (eg. Charity $3).

None of these are covered under standard National person to person text messaging allocations.

@lchiu7 The included SMS are person to person not person to shortcodes!

Most Shortcodes are billed between 9 to 20 cents
