I have a pretty busy life, several businesses, a young family and I'm moving house.

Haven't had the ability to stop by a ONE store yet nor do I have another 5G device in the house at the moment, so I will need some time before I can do some testing.

@ScuL Getting a $1 2degrees SIM card from your local gas station would be easier

I have a Warehouse Mobile card lying around somewhere but I don't think it would connect to 5G despite it being on 2degrees

@Scul Correct! This would be no use to you then for testing

Perhaps not strictly relevant to you since I'm with 2degrees/Warehouse Mobile and not Sony phones, but both of my Xiaomi phones work on 5G with VoLTE, but not VoWiFi. The Xiaomi 10 5G was bought from Dick Smith (shipped from Hong Kong), and the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G was bought from PB. I do have to explicitly force enable VoLTE though some USSD code, otherwise the option won't even be available. Doing the same for VoWiFi still doesn't work for me unfortunately, but work fine with Taiwanese SIM cards here.

I finally had the opportunity to walk into a One NZ store yesterday and they inserted my SIM into a 5G OPPO phone and it immediately connected on 5G.

So the SIM and account are fine. Has to be some setting in the phone.

I just noticed the advert.

It's not even DSE, but their market place front end.

'Eclipse BT Technology' being the seller - don't seem to have rave reviews in the Au market (whirlpool forums) for selling grey import and refurbed devices 'as new' under a few names.

Reply from Sony

Thank you for your recent enquiry to the Sony Support team.

I appreciate you explaining the situation for me. According to my understanding, you have some 5G enquiry with your Sony Xperia 1 III (XQ-BC72). The model of the device you have contacted us for, has not been released officially in the New Zealand Market therefore we have limited assistance that we can offer.

We have limited information regarding the functionality or layout of the handset and as such can not provide full support on this model.

All Xperia phones that are bought outside New Zealand or from an unauthorised retailer are not guaranteed that all features of it will work while using it in New Zealand. The unit might not be compatible with the 5G network of your network provider.

Our best advice would be to contact the retail store/seller you have bought the handset from for further assistance or you can ask them if in what country did the handset came from so that they can also provide you the number or email address of the Xperia support for that country.
