Hi, because of the high speed I am getting on the outskirts of Dunedin, I assumed my E800 was 900/2100. I have found it to be more stable than the Vodem stick. so gave the stick away. Still, the Vodem stick is the best solution outside the main centres. Sharing this device might be a problem tho. There is a PCMCIA wireless router, like the one Woosh supply.
using 900mhz is a massive deal as we often have people travelling to smaller towns. So anyway we've just got a bunch of 6121s and vodems from digital mobile which should do the trick!
Zeon: I know this has been mentioned many times but in terms of performance, how does the new 900mhz network stack up? I have seen posts by JohnR to suggest that speeds are the same between 900mhz/2100mhz network in terms of speeds up to 7.2mbits being available on both. However in terms of real world performance is this the case say if I were staying in a smaller town like Whitianga?
I've been using the 900 MHz network at Huntly for voice and data since it went live, and it's pretty good. If anything, data speeds are better on 900 MHZ, although that may be because there aren't many users yet. But I still get better data speeds from the Telecom CDMA network as they have EVDO Rev. A coverage there.
My experience with Vodafone data is that when it works well (mainly in cities), it's fine. But all too often it doesn't work well, with slow speeds and connection dropouts. I expect that the 900 MHz network will seriously improve this, but I'm not sure how extensive the coverage will be.
