Isn't that just freeview? :)

My question is: do they want to compete with Telecom or with Sky?
I wouldn't pay $50/month more to watch Sky but I would probably pay $10 to have access to uncapped on-demad content

Anyone know if Freeview channels will be in the lineup? I'd be keen for this as DVB-T is not possible where I live.

That is a really interesting question. My understanding is that the "new" Freeview channels (TVNZ6, TVNZ 7, TV3+1 and the rumored soon-to-arrive TV3 extra channel) will not be in the mix - but it would be great if TC were a little more open and communicated more about these things.

"You can do things that, quite frankly, we can't think about right now and some things we wouldn't want to talk about now. You've got the ability, rather than just pulling down movies and content, to send and receive, so email is an obvious application."

His mind has been blown by all the possibilities. So much so that email is this first thing he thinks of?? Classic.

Who knows, maybe by the time they actually deliver email via STB (some time in 2015), it'll be retro??

Another slippage - this time in getting a demo device in the store(email from TCL today)

thank you for registering your interest in TelstraClear HomeMedia PVR
and becoming a Test Pilot.

We are thrilled with the response to our announcement and understand how keen you are to get your hands on one of these devices!

So before we take a break for Christmas, here is an update on our pending launch.

Our first, small group of internal Test Pilots will be putting the device through its paces over Christmas.
We are aiming to get a demonstration device into our Wellington store in Courtenay Place as soon as possible but this will now be January. We will advise you via email as soon as this is available to view.
A group of Beta Test Pilots will be selected in January and we will begin taking orders for HomeMedia PVR late January in preparation for a February launch. Again, we will email you as soon as we are ready to take orders.

As you have registered, you will be the first to receive launch information.

We wish you a very enjoyable holiday season!

Went to sign up for Internet and TV today at the Telstra office and apaprently they are getting the demo PVR on the 18th. Sales guy reckoned they are still on course for February roll out, and existing DTV customers don't have to pay the installation fee

I cant see that happening, unless they're going to be collecting large fees from users of the boxes.

What do people think this is going to cost - maybe like mysky, either an extra $15 per month for rental, or maybe a big several hundred dollar upgrade fee?

re: TVNZ 6 & TVNZ 7

Paper mail received from TC this morning states

"We are making changes to your digital TV channel line-up next month in preparation for
the addition of channels TVNZ 6 and TVNZ 7".

Paper mail statements have typically been more likely to come to fruition than their email variants.

The 'fly in the ointment' is that the letter states that "changes to your digital TV channel line-up" are occurring next month - not the "addition of channels TVNZ 6 and TVNZ 7"?

There's channel number changes for two other channels (Canterbury TV and Visitor TV) to make way for them and two channel removals (SCAN on 97 and the Analogue TV Guide 'Choose' on Channel 99)... all this is stated in the letter.

The letter also states TVNZ6 and TVNZ7 will be added, however this is only for Digital customers, so if you are an Analogue customer you would not have this mentioned on your letter.
