Is your IP in the 218.101.50.x range?

If not then your issue may be different.

But if so: just tell them that you have been having technical problems on this subnet and want a new IP address. Refer them to two other customers whose old IP's were 218.101.50.8 and .18 with the same issue as you and that a new IP solved their problems. You will probably need to be persistent, try not to get two specific with what is wrong if you can as they 'don't support networking equipment'. In the end you are the customer and if you want a new IP address (even if they think you're nuts) they will probably give you one.

BTW: what sort of router do you have? Does your connection still work direct to PC? Have you had a router working from your home before?

IP is 203.97.104.xx
Router is CWA-854 Wireless-G Access Point - http://www.cnet.com.tw/product/cwa-854.htm

Works fine connected directly to the cable modem.

This is my first time using a router on a cable connection - just got cable on Monday and the router yesterday. Previous experience has been with ADSL routers.

An example of the problems I've had is watching a move preview from www.apple.com/trailors - movie starts caching and running but gets to 20-30 seconds downloading and stops. A couple of minutes later it'll work again (browsing, etc for another 20-30 seconds) but the movie would have timed out by then.

Just on a side note, TCL have implimented the fix back on their network which should have stopped routers locking up. Is anybody still encountering this problem?

hmm, ok this doesn't sound like the same problem.
As we got no connectivity at all and were on a different subnet, we also had working routers/configurations, that suddenly stopped working on the same day, rather than a router that hadn't ever worked.

I would exhaust all router config issues first before contacting telstra, also we are on the same network as you now so I don't think changing IP address is going to make any difference for you.

What are your router settings?

Have you tried just wireless access or the lan ports directly as well? Does it work through the LAN port?

On another topic:
Sbiddle: do you know what this fix was? The last I heard from TCL, they said:
It does not appear to be a problem on our network per se; it does appear to be a problem that some networking equipment seems to have with that subnet range. "

Hmm - that's interesting. I have been using a Belkin A+G router for the past month or so and it locks up about once a day, requiring a power rest. Belkin gave me another one to try out and it does the same thing. My IP is in the 203.97.108 range. When it locks up it locks up both as a router and as a WAP. I can't even put in the IP address for the cable modem and see any information.

Belkin have been trying to reproduce the problem but since they are in Auckland they cannot - the best they can do is plug in a DSL modem into the router but of course that doesn't reproduce the problem people have been talking about here

PS

TCL just gave me a new IP address on the 203.97.103 range. Will see if this fixes the problem

Have grabbed a Linksys WQireless - G Broadband Router from work to try out tonight. Hopefully it makes a difference and means that my new CNet router just needs to be reconfigured...

Chucked on the router from work and it worked first time. Still having the same issues as before with CNET one. I think the following are causing the issues (links to print screens)

My Basic Setup - IP Address, Firmware, etc (updated firmware and Telstra assigned IP details)

No joy - still have lockups with this IP also

pp.co.nz is replacing the router for me after I described my issues. Hopefully the new one works...

The issue TelstraClear had was excessive ARP packets on their cable network. Since ARP requests are send to every device on the network this was causing some brands of routers to lock up. They had software installed on their network to resolve this problem and that worked succesfully up until recently when it was removed during an upgrade. The software has been reinstalled and has certainly solved the issue for most customers (myself included). TCL are aware of this issue still happening and are looking into it.

What was the date of this upgrade and reinstallation of software?

The reinstallation happened a few weeks ago now. I couldn't give you an exact date but probably around 2 weeks or so. My router hasn't locked up since then.

The only issue I seem to be having now is small micro outages (less than a minute) affecting the network.
