So far we have 10 2degrees accounts and we haven't had to ring their help desk once. I don't even know if they really exist!

We try to make everything simple and easy so you don't have to call - but if you need us we're there for you 24/7.

Ahhh good point, I forgot about the auto topup.

And Monthly Auto Top Up makes it even easier. You can top up your account and up to 14 others every month. It happens on the day you select and with the amounts you select.

Roll on the end of my VF contract... I had a good read of the 2D website yesterday and I must say I was quite impressed with what I saw. It all (plans/packages/pricing, add-ons, etc) seemed to be very well thought out.

NonprayingMantis: horses for course really. some people like the subsidy you get with the contract, some people prefer the freedom to switch. whatever floats your boat. as long as both options are available then no one can really complain.

Just pick whichever suits you best

Correct - however vodafone don't offer the freedom to switch - i.e. no open term contracts.

They do if you get a Broadband Pro / Ultra account......and then use data for most of your comms. Voice calls are "expensive" to make, but for the 10 minutes / month I use, it will still work out a lot cheaper to go open term on a data SIM than to stay on my existing arrangement.

Might even try SIP.....with actual PSTN dial as my failover option.

damianf: Update team - having run on 2degrees for two days now I'm very happy. It's amazing how snappy EDGE is compared to Voda 3G - only noticeably slower in a couple of traffic-heavy applications.

And not a single dropped call!  I gave up ringing the Vodafone help desk about my dropped calls - they kept telling me it was my handset that was at fault.

Funny how a 2degrees SIM fixed my handset too!

That is what I have been saying a lot... 2degrees EDGE is quick!

EDGE is fast because they have so few on the network using it for data currently.  I doubt it would scale so well if they had as many smartphone-toting customers as Vodafone.

And as I been been saying ad-nauseum, if you move outside of the 3 main metros, GPRS is truly horrible.

Yup I had GPRS last weekend up north... I would never reccomend it as an alternative!

Just my 2c.. I reckon that 2degrees sees all this as their 'beta' test. Making sure they have the systems ready for their real products, a company that expands grecefully will be much better off than one that grows super fast. I know XT is a great example so I will just mention it =]

GPRS sucks! It is far less painful to poke a stick in my eye!!! VF really, really annoys me with their inability to keep to the dates they promise - I bought my previous phone on the promise that faster speeds would be available in my town within 6 months (I even had a date)... it was over 2 years before it happened and even then the speeds still sucked!! I feel really deceived by VF, especially since I spent nearly $700 on a phone way back then because of the impending upgrade and need only have spent $300. I want my $400 back!

EDGE is good, but in the places I go to, 2Degrees has zero coverage, and I don't want to roam on GPRS. Vodafone Mobile Broadband works well for me so far (touchwood).

if you are only considering contracts then you should exclude 2degrees - since they only offer prepaid.but that is silly, really you shoudl also consider prepaid into the mix,  which vodafone do have.

Ashburton got 3G extended along time ago

I take it you are using a device that support UMTS 900mhz?

What speeds are you getting?
