Dear Vodafone,

So this is goodbye.  What an anticlimax.  I've been a BellSouth/Vodafone customer for most of my adult life (continuously for more than 15 years) and have watched you turn from the young, hungry upstart (who we cheered) to the wretched Telecom-clone that you have become.

I'm sure you won't notice (and you probably don't care), but today I shifted the last of our companies mobiles (mine) to 2degrees - something that I have waited years for.  Even the thought of suffering on 2degrees Edge network (until they go 3G) has become more appealing than doing business with you any longer.

I'd like to say it's been fun, Vodafone, but I don't want to lie. One thing is for sure - I'll never, ever, be a Vodafone customer again.

I'm confused. You say you are leaving vodafone, yet in the thread title you are encouraging us to purchase from them, telling us to 'buy vodafone'.

now if you had said 'bye, vodafone.' it might make more sense.

Actually I think 2degrees prepay is pretty much close to postpay for most small to medium enterprises in NZ....

1. There is auto monthly topup 
2. You get to control how much your staff can spend in a month
3. No contract, so you still can switch provider any time
4. Pricing are quite competitive
5. Your unspent credits (well, most of them), are carried forwarded to the next month

obviously you don't get stuff like talkzone but that's much more costly if your usage is low.

We've saved thousands already by moving to 2degrees and most of our phones could be considered as high use.

Pre-pay is a pain in the butt, although the auto top-up feature is a boon.

I moved to 2Degrees a few months ago from on-account. I spend about $60 a month, have weighed up the difference and have found that I will pay slightly less for my current usage on 2Degrees - not to mention the fact that I am SICK of 12-24 month contracts!

Let's just say there were very few positive experiences and far too many negative ones. It is not exaggeration to say that every time we have asked Vodafone to change or fix something over the past 5+ years it has resulted in some kind of negative impact or another.  Every single time.

For example, there was the time they removed my international roaming for no apparent reason (they couldn't figure out why they did it either).  When they added it again I was unable to receive calls for four days (could make them, just couldn't receive them).  I hadn't left the country - I just couldn't receive calls.  I average about 20 - 30 calls per day, so this was a killer.

The level of arrogance, buck passing and just plain CBF we got from Vodafone during this periods is (was)  exasperating and damaging to our business.

So far we have 10 2degrees accounts and we haven't had to ring their help desk once. I don't even know if they really exist!

I don't mind contracts, I'm at the end of my second 36 month contract, never really had the desire to swap providers (Vodafone) and getting the huge rebate for a new phone at the start is always a bonus.

You just need to work it to your advantage. Smile

Okay I want the SE x10i
Phone = $1099
24month smart 60 dicount = $799

That is $12.50 per month or $300 savings.

Now let's look @ the Smart 60.
$60 gets me
60 Anytime minutes
250Mb Data
600 Texts

2degrees.
Topup $60
500 texts
136 Miuntes to anyone or 272 Landline/2d minutes

or to get 250 Mb that is 5x $6 = $30

So I can get
500texts
68 Minutes to anyone or 136 Landline/2d minutes
and 256 Mb

(-8 Anytime minutes = $3.52)

Now this is for the same price, so basically there is $8.98 more value we would get from vodafone (unless we call a landline or a 2d buddie). The issues I see is that you are locked in for 24 Months AND you do not always use ALL your minutes or data per month. I doubt most people would use any more than 150Mb, but I could be wrong.

Now let's look at those break fees...





0-3 months
$480 Early Termination Charges apply


4-6 months
$480 Early Termination Charges apply


7-12 months
$360 Early Termination Charges apply


13-18 months
$225 Early Termination Charges apply


19-24 months
$225 Early Termination Charges apply




Wow thats pretty harsh isn't it??

This is why I hate plans. Not to mention next month VF will probably release some wizz-bang! promo thats only avalible on prepay.

Yeah I dont see myself signing up for 2 years again.. Plus I have no idea how I'll use my phone in 2 years, text might be outdated by then with instant messaging the way things are going

I have broken all my contracts within the last 12-6 months because there is a better offering. The savings do not ever add up unless you stay.
