I wonder what happens to people paying by Direct Debit or Automatic Payment - or have they been turned off already? No information on their website either (but I'm not really surprised).

they appear to be fine. in fact my user rang up to complain when everything was shut off early, and ended up being re-enabled and on a direct-debit plan instead. perhaps the 'we're not allowed to bill your credit card anymore, here switch to ULL line" was just the first wave and the DD/AP crowd are next to be hit :P

Behodar: Dialup, from any provider, will not work from a ULL line. This person will either need to move away from TCL or get broadband.

Not quite true, infact I've tested this on a Vodafone ULL. I got an amazing 9600bps!

Reminds me of the BBS days - if your BBS supported 9600, your were king!

LOL. as predicted. reprieve now over and DD/AP customers being asked to 'move along, nothing to see here'. CSR apparently told customer that they are indeed trying to close off paradise and that it just started with credit card customers.

I suspect this is misinformation from the marketing people.

My money is on the problem being PCI standards dictated by the banks (with requirements like all credit card details to be stored encrypted).

Also, as you can now see with the other customers getting the boot, the whole "credit card law" line was only a small part of the true story which is probably "we haven't been taking on new paradise customers for years and the customer base has deminished to the point where it is not worth running a second system"

The number of times I heard misinformation from marketing when I worked there was incredible.

Anyway, I suspect you're right - one infrastructure is cheaper to run than two. A sad loss to see Paradise end this way though.
