Last one we had was last week and you turned down the invite!

although admittedly that wasn't a launch event. I tend not to do them - we're launching stuff all the time and having a press event for each is a bit traumatic.

Also you're so far away!

PaulBrislen: Term contracts certainly have their place - in a market where handset locking is frowned upon, term contracts allow us to include a handset subsidy so customers who want a $1000 device can get it without plunking down $1000 up front.

Different customers want different things.

Paul

And at last you have the option for those people who are happy to use their own handsets. Something we debated before...

Except for you know, those handsets customers couldn't get (admittedly, not "yet") on prepay/no plan. ;)

More likely Paul was thinking of the official manufacturer website... You know, you can buy outright there, cheaper than Trade Me probably, and with warranty.

With these new plans, can I add on 200 minutes of anytime calling to Vodafone numbers? That would be great value to me.

The way I see a term contract it's not only a barrier to leave, but a barrier to entry. People (like myself) are afraid of signing up for a term contract and being locked with something that's not what they expected.

Totally agree ... in the UK I was on a one month notice "contract" with Voda over there and actually sat on it for 22 months or so (until I returned back to NZ) ... it made life a lot easier than being on prepay ... and yet, even though I sat on it for almost 24 months, there was no way in the world I would've ever signed up to a 24 month commitment ...

So I for one definitely like the idea and am glad it's returned to VNZ ... and I'm sure if/when a new entrant moves into postpay stuff it'll be of a similar nature.

100% agree with what you said about the plans. I use prepaid, I have no use for plans. But when I go to have a look at the WF website and look at their plans there is just so many. 5 or less is a good number i would say. But thats just me.

I fail to see why we are locked in to a contract on Vodafone when we bring our own handset.

There is no subsidy, no advantage at all, but yet they still insist we sign for x months.

THEN once that lapses, there are no incentives to resign to a contract again.

Fail.
