spazz: Vodafone lady in Chch said they've extended it til the end of the year! Can anyone confirm??

If they were going to extend it, they would of notified everyone by now like they did last time they extended it.

IMHO they will either; not continue free weekend text and just say the You Choose text offerings are there to replace it, OR, they will replace free text weekends with a similar promo.... let my mind run wild here, maybe..... free off peak texting? (not including weekends) or FREE UNLIMITED TEXTING TO ANY NETWORK, NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL - yea right!

But yes, my bet is that the current free text weekends promo will not continue in it's current state!!

If it was to continue, it would have already been announced by now so that users don't think it's going to end and move across to Telecom.

They announced it was going to continue 1 1/2 months before it was due to end last time.

Mark my words right here, right now, Vodafone wont continue free text weekends in it's current state, it will either be altered or it will completely end.

lokinz: I'm with johnr on this one, i'd ratter just hear from the people that love me enough to spend 20c on me, no the ones that only txt me in the weekend because its free.

Are you saying theres nobody that loves you enough to spend 20c on you?

So is free really going to end or is are we getting what somebody thinks might happen

No...Plenty do, just saying I get sick of the people that only txt you when it's free.

It's only speculation at the moment; you just never know what’s going to happen....

I'm just giving you my opinion.

Based on the way Vodafone would market their products and on the way they extended this free text promo last time, ALSO, by the changing mobile environment, I don't see them extending this current promotion.

Why you ask?

Because they have got people into the habbit of texting in the weekends. They can now provide a different promotion and get people using their mobiles more often in a different way. Telecom just stick with $10 text, they wouldn't dare be innovative.

Think about it, why did Vodafone extend free text weekends by only another 3 months? I'll tell you why..... because they have plans! Did you notice that the "talk for 2 hours and pay for 3 mins" promo also ends at the end of this month?

I'm guessing that they will come out with a completely different promotion stratagy at the end of this month.

Yes time will tell, but as I have said before, I think we will see a little bit more of free txt weekends before we see the "completely different promotion" (if it's just a promotion at all....

)

I just think that is a very bold statement to make, if you're wrong do we get some kind of prize?

IMHO I dont think Vodafone will want to play too much with the free texting weekends, case in point would be Telecom ending $10 unlimited texts. Young people will desert VF if they cut that as Telecom has the next best thing. $10 texting is much
better value.
I just thinking they're not giving anything away till the last possible moment, remember confusion = marketing tool

i agree with lokinz.

I also feel that free text weekends have not been running long enough to "get people in the habit".

Will be interesting to see what happens.. Is the end date 30th June?

I often wonder about the economic costs and benefits of '$10 Text' and 'Free Text Weekends', because heavy text messaging users tend to be low ARPU customers anyway. Would it really be that detrimental to Vodafone's business if a handful of their customers in the 13-18 age bracket were to dessert them in favour of Telecom?

The 'You Choose' concept is a much better innovation for those of us who do more than just text messaging. It's just a pity that they had to go and ruin it by refusing to offer an open term option.

It is very important for Vodafone to keep customers aged from 13 - 18 because as these customers get older, they are more likely to stay with Vodafone in the future.
