Thanks but I don’t want to share our connection with anyone for security reasons and don’t want the responsibility.

UFB offers the advantage that your tenant could activate port 2 on the ONT and have their very own connection which they pay their own ISP for. Something (AFAIK?) not possible with cable. A win perhaps? :)

Get on to this quickly! Hopefully it is correctly configured on the street, but it not, there might be a delay.

A friend of ours had a very annoying wait of about six weeks after they built a new flat in their basement, while Chorus reprovisioned the fibre in their street to cope with having another connection!

Ironically, my friend went on to share their connection with their tenant, so didn't need the new fibre line.

That sounds like an additional ONT rather than a second port which is a whole other thing.

If you just activate an additional port on your exisiting ONT (note the ONT comes with 4 ports of which normally only 1 is activated) it should just run over the exisiting fibre connection. Each port can be activated to different RSPs, customers, etc and it all goes over the single fibre line.

There was... at a time... a possibility to authenticate twice with multiple IP addresses onto the same billing account, using the same cable modem.

I don't know why you'd want to do this but it was possible (you're still limited to the CIR rates applied to that one cable modem).

Speculating here but just noticed a couple of downer vehicles working by a HFC cabinet up my street then shift to another tall standing box further down the street, can only assume they are powering down the network? Assuming everyone in my area is now on Fibre I doubt they are fixing faults

Had the Chorus tech come the other day, all switched over, a lot simpler than I thought it'd be. Very tidy install was surprised. A few disconnects once it had switched to Fibre but sorted itself after about 3 hours.

The extra upload is nice and latency a tiny bit better.

How long did people have to wait for the $200 credit to appear on their billing?

Had another look at the 21st January HFC closing email advice from One NZ so can consider options.

Under the 'We're here to help you' tab, 'Changing your broadband is easy and our team is here to help every step of the way. You can read more including FAQs at one.nz/HFCchanges.'

Sigh, it goes to 'This link has expired. Please contact the sender of the email for more information.'

It is just the click-tracking link in your email that has expired, https://one.nz/HFCchanges/ works fine.

Spoke to One NZ. NB that the deal offered has a $5 pm increase in April. You get a free smart wifi router, but if you need super Wifi which I do it’s an extra $5 per unit. I need two. I have my 2 old superwifi Deco 50 units that they said would work. Wondering if it would be wise to get the latest version?

If you decide to go on a lower speed plan eg Fibre Starter, there are no incentives or discounts available.

I also spoke to them about the downstairs flat. They can have their own fibre modem installed free separate to mine.
