No, all they need to do now is sort out Wellington CBD.

Which simply won't happen. The costs of rolling out the HFC network in the CBD made it impossible.

You will need a new modem, which I assume is being delivered to you by a technician since they need to be installed and configured.

Also note that if you use a crappy router you will get crappy results. A lot of cheaper routers don't have enough processing power to route 100 Mbps of packets. There are high end ones (like the Cisco Linksys E3200 and E4200, the Cisco SRP 521W) and some NETGEAR (including the Wireless Extreme WNDRMAC) that will perform really well. Cheap routers will have limits and your experience will be most likely crippled.

Worth noting since I had what was termed a business router (Linksys) at work which handled 25Mbs fine. But when I had the line upgraded to 100Mbs it was a constraint on the line speed and I upgraded to a Mikrotik router since I needed 100Mbs and potentially 100Mbs over a ISPSEC VPN.

Hi Silverwolf, you will be contacted and a time arranged for a technician to visit and install the new modem and ensure that your computer settings are correct for the increased speed.

Hi th3r3turn. I can get the WarpSpeed 150G option from the 'Service change: Cable Broadband' page after logging into 'My profile' and going through the change process. Let me know if you still can't see the option and I'll ask one of the team to contact you and arrange the upgrade.

Virtually all of the Wgtn CBD has VDSL2 and you'll get more than 25Mbps

More like 9 years or more, I'm sure overage was $2.95/GB when I first signed up. I'd prefer there was the option to slow down the connection once my cap was reached, but that's another topic.
I did switch from cable to ADSL once based on data prices, but then fairly soon switched back because I found cable to be so much better (more reliable, faster, lower latency, no half-bridging of modem..).
Great to hear TCL will be providing fibre plans.

So any news from plan users regarding real world speeds? It's one thing to say it's 100/10mb/s but I wondered if end users are likely to notice a huge improvement?
I'm thinking about signing up when we move to a new house in Spreydon, Christchurch in two weeks.
Current I'm on Telecom which shows download speeds of about 7Mbps using this test. Is the speed increase noticeable for international websites, for example YouTube streaming? Would I notice much benefit for online gaming to Aus and the US?

YouTube streaming is a different case, since TelstraClear runs its own Google cache. Providing you are using the correct DNS you should get almost max speed. The same for local content such as Apple iTunes and Microsoft updates, since these seem to come from local Akamai servers.

Yesterday I was downloading CS:GO from Steam (TelstraClear servers) at about 5 MB/s (that megabytes per second, not megabits per second).

When I was on the beta for this in 2010 I found things a bit faster but not heaps. You are totally constrained by the other end. YouTube is pretty good on Chch cable now so i would not expect a huge leap.

Gaming for me is USA servers (World of Warcraft) and it was marginally better. However my borders gaming was way better (PS3 and PC) and hosting for them rocked.

Where the other end is controlled eg a super fast FTP speed will jump up heaps. I did testing of speeds and even peak load times were pretty good (I could hunt them up but would need TCL permission to post of course).

Anyway I have signed up for the 150 and its installed in a week. So TLDR its better but subject to what you are doing. Cable now is pretty good, this is a bit better or way better (but again depends on where the traffic is from) YMMV.

That sounds positive, I'm not even on cable now, just with Telecom's copper line. Will probably give it a go when we move, just a bit put off by having to pay for the install or sign up for two years...

I live in Spreydon, Christchurch, and am on TCL cable 'Lightspeed 20G' plan. Using that test previously I get very close to the advertised 15Mbps/2Mbps plan speed. On torrents I consistently get 1.6MB/s.
Youtube I try very hard to avoid, but seems OK when I do. Not full line speed on most videos though, as it still buffers on some 480p content (but not on some 720p).
I will run the test again tonight when home to confirm I still get such speeds.
If you are so inclined, I'd be keen to set up a wireless link with someone geeky.

I'd definitely recommend cable over ADSL2+ though, having used both at the same house.
