RmACK: It appears that I can get good(ish) sustained transfers e.g. 2Mbit from California which, albeit 3x slower than usual is fine. Pings are also a tad higher than usual but still sensible around 180ms, and pretty consistent.

Yet page elements each take 2-4s to load on affected sites.

Is it possible for there to be some issue that could make establishing connections very high latency, without actually having too much impact on the throughput of said connections once established?? To load an image from my server in a browser takes 1-1.5sec to start but achieves over 2Mbps.

yeah transparent proxies being overloaded .. and sticking outstanding requests into a queue.

Glad to see its not just me. Wikipedia is one site that's consistently bad for me tonight. Doing my head in, really should switch. Vodafone would suit me as my business cellphones are with them and I find their service pretty good compared to Telecom, TCL and many other I ring on behalf of clients. I've heard reasonable things in general about vodafone broadband and network. Whats the feeling out there?

mattbush: It is getting worse...(Cable anyways)...kind of weird tho as I am able to game in online games but not browse to international sites at an acceptable level.

Maybe this is another one of those "upstream provider" issues that TCL dont like getting involved.

Hurry up UFB so i too can ditch these jerks...

Funny you say international as that's the issue for me too. Local sites fine. fkc I hate TCL

Another CHCH cable customer here.. having mega problems with international traffic.  Can't connect to streaming video reliably.. many sites failing to load properly.

Speed test works as expected on local server, but fails to even begin on random servers I pick in the states.

Crazy slow this morning, Wellington TCL 100mpbs cable.  I get 93mbps on TCL's speedtest, but speedtest.net won't load at all.

It seems that if it's in the cache, it gets an answer, not in the cache, no answer.

The kicker is that I can't play Diablo III because it can't download the patch...

TC are surprisingly quiet on this. Normally they're here giving us information or at least telling us they're looking into it.

I've logged several complaints and have been receiving the standard response of yes we know we have a problem, but we don't know when we'll be able to solve it...

I don't think they have anything to report back.

I know what the issue is, but it's not something I'm going to post in a public forum. It's safe to say your summary pretty much explains things.

It's amazingly frustrating to have a connection that's totally unusable, it's going to be very interesting to see how TCL rate in the next lot of Truenet tests, I suspect their results will be truely abysmal.

A technican rang me last night. We did a speed test using the tool on TC's website - all was normal. Was asked to reset IE to default settings. Was told to ring back if I experience any further issues.

This is why no-one here bothers with TC tech support, they obviously don't even understand the nature of the problem. Your link and national traffic's fine, it's international traffic that's the issue.

Why not post it?

We all want to know what the issue is.

I know lots of people in the industry and get told lots of things in comfidence. I don't then go around blabbing those things to everybody..

TCL's primary issue is their transparent proxy. This is no secret and it's been been the source of many recent discussions on here.
