I also installed the full version of VMC but this didn't fix my problem - although I agree that it's much better being able to connect immediately and not wait for VMC lite to load.

Whatever was changed on the Network last week fixed my problem. I have had no problems since and in the absence of doing any quantitative tests I'll just have to swear that I think its faster.

johnr: ...Download V7.03 VMC software and run this instead of the Vodem software ...
Thanks, and I find that VMC works for "Power User" (as well as Admin) which VMCLite did not.

Good to find this forum. I have had the vodem for about 4wks now, and not overly impressed.
I've had all the symptoms you guys are reporting, plus a few others.  Been through the "it'll be fixed by Wednesday" message from vodafone.  But still getting poor performance.
Lockups, low/no speed pings of >10s etc...
Anyway Vodafone have been pretty helpful, and I did end up talking to a good tech guy on my last call.  Seems there are a few known problems with the network that they are working through.  One being if you are in the vicinity of multiple cell towers, and the vodem trys a "switch" then it can lock.  Also voice will always take priority over data, so if lots of calls are happenning, then the vodem can lock-up and/or perform poorly.
I am in Auckland CBD, so both these situations could easily arise!
However full credit to Vodafone for admitting the problems and they have given my 2 months free usage in compensation for these issues.  To quote the helpdesk.... "That should give us enough time to fix everything!"....
Cheers
Rob

Hi Robby

Voice takes priority on the 2G network with the GPRS overlay (You live in 3G coverage) so count this out

In the 3G WCDMA/HSDPA its there for all and voice does not travel on the HSDPA channel

Try running the V7.03 VMC software and report back how you get on?

Thanks John

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply.  I'm just echoing what the voadafone guy told me.  Yes you could be right about 2G voice priority.
I am using the VMC software.  I migrated to that early on after advice again from Vodafone.
Still get problems, howver last night it only locked up once during a 1hr session.  It's still very slow and ping times are high.  I live in the middle of the CBD with excellent signal strength, but probably share my space with lots of other users!
Cheers
Rob
