maverick: Lol no its not , it's an old test number, I'm y but not that silly.
Also had to do health and safety for them with my 43k german Shepard, gave a couple of them a big fright as they were installing next the fence :)

Lorenceo: Does Xnet have any plans to use the POTS ports on the ONTs in the future? I imagine it'd simplify connecting for end users, not having to configure anything, etc, as well as allowing users who only wish to have a phone line (the number of which I'm sure is becoming smaller and smaller each day) to do so.
maverick: Yes that's correct it has 4 x GB Ethernet one is used for the connection to the customers CPE and it has 2 pots ports if SP want to use the baseband service offered on the device, we wont be using this as it does not meet our requirements around SIP interoperability (I wont add what I actually think of this here I have already passed my comments back but they have to offer something apparently doesn't matter if it doesn't actually work with SP soft-switches), most providers will elect for a RGW (residential gateway) device any way.
Sorry Webshots was the only place I had to upload in bulk![]()
I will upload a couple more photos for you showing the ports
Lorenceo: Something else, do you know if the black cable they pulled down the street from the underground box (picture 60) to the cul-de-sac will only feed your house, or will it feed your immediate neighbours as well if they decide to get connected (via a splitter)?
Seems inefficient to have to cut up the concrete/dig excessively every time a customer near you wants to get connected, especially if they can just pull fibre through the already buried conduits leading to each of the houses back to a splitter at the end of the long black cable they pulled when they did your install.
I imagine when they move to doing roll outs in areas with overhead power/phone it'll be a far quicker process, assuming they put the main cables in the ground along with the multi-pair telephone cables, and then attach splitters to the power poles. Aerial drops down to the houses could then be done with pre-terminated cables.
, the exact question on the concrete was joked about, we thought as soon as they fixed it we would order fibre for my neighbour and see if they have the same connection problems, if they did that the slab would be replaced 3 times in about 6 weeks ... but with all jokes aside this is the real problems faced by the service companies

Bugger, I was going to call and wind you up...
Huge stack of equipment there .... how many power supplies and cables creating a rat's nest of wiring have you got now?

Lorenceo: Much better. Thanks for that.
Some other things I've been wondering: What speed do you have provisioned? 30/10 or 100/50? Does it maintain those speeds well?
Also how does your connection authenticate? PPPoE, DHCP, or something else? Does your router have to do VLAN 10 tagging, or does the ONT do this transparently?

Actually?it's really tidy now Antonisk, its all fed via a Single cat 6 cable now and all is hidden in a cabinet in the corner ... being a ex linee I like my cables tidy?

I especially like the first photo, where you agree chorus can do anything it wants to do to install the service.... not after the job is done!
