Same. I currently have ADSL Fusion 40 with two Open VFX lines for $79.95 per month.

My options are;
1. Stay with Fusion - VDSL Fusion 50 @ $100 per month plus $285 for MP VDSL router or
2. Use my existing FritzBox 7390 VDSL router with Naked DSL - VDSL Naked 50 @ $100 per month plus two Open VFX lines @ $11.50 per month each, a total of $123 per month!

Neither option is acceptable to me! I just can't see the value. Have I missed something?

Inphinity: I'm still confused about the benefits to justify the significant price increase compared to Snap, Telecom etc. If there's a good reason for the price, I'd look at it...

Snap VDSL from $85/mth
WxC VDSL from $75/mth

For the average user who uses 16GB per month, that's good value :)

The problem it's only at the bottom where it looks cheaper, go up one level and it's half the data for $15 per month more compared to Snap. So WXC is great if you don't want to use any data and want to spend $280 on a new modem. Just don't want to use your own equipment and lots of data and you'll be fine.

I'm also a big confused with all this, I think having one modem setup is great from WXC point of view for ease of ongoing management of systems, customer experience etc. But to the put all plan prices up?

So after being with them for 7+ years and I was to go on a new plan, am I correct that I would have to go on 12 month contract, pay much more than if I had changed a couple of weeks ago, buy a new modem at $285 that then won't work with other ISP's if I change provider down the track? OR pay even more monthly to carry on using my own equipment?

I've always been extremely impressed with WXC's support etc but stuff like this seems to amaze me, especially after moving family members over and one of them spending $300+ on a router recommended by WXC a few months ago to find out if they now need to change plans they pretty stuffed (actually I'm going to be the one they call to abuse ;p).

I do hope I'm missing something....

It is not locked down with username etc so you can use it with another ISP.

Correct, its only the VoIP that is restricted to WxC only.

Sorry, Yes but would not be able to load a new VoIP provider so another piece of equip is needed.

No Vdsl where my parents live, so this might not be the place to talk about the mp64 in my implementation. This was not the device needed, i was using all tp-link equipment.
Even though the mp264 could not get any service my $80 tplink TD-W8950ND (ive got the old case the black and white one) had been operating for approx. 12 months although a little intermittent (it did such a good job no one could see reason for the problems that i was encountering), as it was pretty much on permanent loan when things further from the house needed internet and phone i added 3 TL-Wa901nd access points it was so easy i put them all in bridge ap mode all i had to do was plug in the cisco voip gateway to any ap and tadaaHHH phone in the workshop/garage/little house across the paddock/portable office at worksite 1.2 km down the road.

So now there is a $284 investment, Does it support universal repeating?, im not sure as i cant find a decent manual for the thing!. A quick look tells me there is no wds.

My parents have endured download speeds of less than 1MB/s, days of completely no phone or internet. We had the odd outage with the old hardware but not like with mp264.

In the last 24 months over $5000 has been spent in trying to improve intermittent connection issues, this includes a new cable being laid up the subdivision driveway by us at personal expense, as my parents moonlight as civil contractors and are occasionally subbies when things get behind in the infrastructure upgrade we managed to do this at cost price with our own digger and some supervision from a chorus technician who took pity on us, a new computer in the home office (i7 quad core 16gb ram etc POWERFUL), all said tp-link hardware and finnished with a dedicated jack and cat6 in the house.

The tp-link hardware made the best improvement of all the solutions tried so far, adding so much to our family business at very little cost.

When we got the mp264 the costs involved in down time, mobile broadband to cover outages, call costs via call rerouting to the cell phone, travel and downtime trying to sort this out $1100 (and that is only if i charge myself at $13.75). The other costs like soothing customers who include 3 councils in the waikato area are immeasurable.

Well guess no internet improvement and since it just plain died when dad called me to organize the work shout on Wednesday no voice quality improvement either, loads of downtime and associated incurred costs summarizes my experience with the mp264.

Having read that last post I'm unsure what the issue is the last poster has, but if you've only got a sync rate of 7695 it sounds like you're on a BUBA ADSL1 connection.

It's physically impossible to get speeds of greater than 1MB/s if this is the case, and it's very likely your speed related issues are because of your connection type. My pick would be you're rural and maybe on a Conlin? If so it's not going to matter what ISP or modem you use, you'll see the same results.

I would suggest you start a new thread and explain what your problem actually is.

Correct, please start a new topic. Although, as Steve has already pointed out it is very likely the issues you see are related to being in a (semi) rural area connected to a Conklin. There are countless threads on this topic already - if you do a search for "Conklin" on Geekzone, you will come up with some informative posts.

sorry guys starting a new thread, but to clarify there is a new cabinet less than 130m from the subdivision gateway our driveway is 1081m long and has new cable all the way up it, i have the plans from transfield that show the same infrastructure we are on is connected to hamilton airport and verified this when talking with chorus technician who was checking our work after thrusting in cambridge. He also tells me that the cabinet allows UFB and is the last available point untill services are upgraded to allow ufb in matangi
1081+130m is what does not guarantee vdsl, everyone elses adsl up our subdivision gets better speed tests double what we do now after upgrading to the mp264.
The adsl is slower i have months of speed tests to prove this.
I have had a chorus technician tell me that we have gone to unbelievable lengths to create an optimum environment to solve this he has been in our house looked over what we have for a setup and told me that infrastructure is definitely not to blame and that we are in an adsl2+ service area and are not getting what we should

The Problem is worse since we got the mp264.

Due to the upgrade outside and inside the subdivision we no longer have a waiting list to receive adsl so in 10 days from monday there will be the nearest slingshot solution available and i will be testing the the 2 ISP'S against each other i am keen to see what the result is.

I have been reading the forums wisdom for a number of years but have only just joined the ranks the info on here has saved me countless dollars thanks.

My parents and family business office are in the waikato, I live in a really rural area in taranaki called kapuni and work from there, google maps it i actually live near the middle of nowhere and my internet is better

Any suggestions for a topic header? for my new thread???

Please start a new topic in the Broadband forum http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49 as your problem is not VDSL related, and almost certainly not WXC related.

I suggest you first read the automated response by PeterReader that appears as the second post in the majority of topics in that forum, and provide the answers to the various questions around location, line stats, description of wiring as you understand it etc. People here will need that sort of information to try to diagnose what the issue is remotely for you. Good luck!
