Then you shouldn't have bothered. You are better off just buying a normal plan and a data add on.

Just because somebody offers you an 'exclusive' plan that is not off the shelf, doesn't mean it is better value than what you can normally buy.

See now you have made assumptions i believe for my situation it does give me the best value i use the calling to Australia frequently i am often in Australia so having the data to use their is also a bonus. I can't be bothered with trademe for my old phone so that problem solved. It is a business phone for me so the insurance is brilliant being included. The extra 1gb of data for my R208 is great as well. I do a lot with video so the more data i can get helps me.

So the data can be used in Australia as well? I thought someone clarified that it the data can be used in NZ only. Even otherwise, I'm with Mantis - the Red Super gives you all of this (barring the Aussie data allowance) for less. That includes the 1GB for your R208 which comes with the Red Super plan. With the Red Super business someone else clarified that you get insurance.

So again, not sure you're better off unless we're missing some huge value proposition in the black plan. Perhaps if the data is portable to Aus as well, then maybe... but I'd much rather pay $2 a day with Optus in OZ and get unlimited 4G data :P

You mean that I can't get unlimited 4G data in NZ for only $2 per day?! Sacre bleu! ;-)

Are u *sure* the data can be used in Ozzie?

If so, that may also explain why voda don't want this plan becoming public knowledge.

They don't want to give away cheap roaming to consumers because they make piles of cash from corporate roaming. If corporate account managers found out consumers were getting super cheap roaming, then they would start demanding it too.

The average consumer doesn't do much data roaming, but business do loads, and pay through those for it right now.

Data can definitely be used in Australia. I had this confirmed to me in a DM from johnr last night.

Ah, cool.

That changes the value equation quite a lot then.

So I can see now that this plan would be good value, but only for people who fulfill the following criteria

1) roam to Australia quite a lot (say, 5 days a month or more on average)
2) heavy data users (more than a couple of hundred MB per day)
3) can't be bothered to use wifi and/or local sim. (Which removes the need for roaming for the most part, but is a bit of a hassle)

If you fit those three criteria, then it's probably a pretty good deal.

So there's the value proposition. Fair enough - for the frequent Aussie traveller this might be useful.

Still seems a steep price to pay for what you get.

That's interesting, as when I asked the Vodafone CSR about roaming the black plan was the same as the red plans. It would be good to know there is a difference other than the data allowance.

What do you need to do to get the black plans?! not that I want it, having visited Australia for only 7 days in 9 years, but worth asking out of curiosity!

Perhaps provide demonstrable evidence of having failed an economics course so that they can "invite" you to be a part of an elite club of sub-optimal decisionmakers :)

I know I know... low blow. I think a part of me is just venting a bit from the in-home broadband pricing announcements.
