Not on the new Red Home plans that VDSL is a part of. There's no throttling on those, either - it's a flat rate of $1/1GB if you go over the cap.

Doubt it. Double data doesn't exist anymore on Vodafone current plans, only on old grandfathered plans,

If you want more data then literally every other ISP that has vdsl has plans with more data, or even unlimited data.

Yes - when you reach the end of your plan’s data allowance, you will be charged the excess data rate of $1 per gigabyte, or part thereof. As a heads up, usage notifications are sent out at 80% and 100% of a plan’s data allowance, then at every 10GB of use in excess of that allowance.

Not enough data for us and I would utterly demolish 250GB easy in 1-2 weeks.

What I would love to know... is there a latency improvement between ADSL2 / VDSL when it comes to online gaming ?
I have a friend that switched from ADSL to VDSL, and his average in-game latency went from 200ms to 300ms after switching.
I dont know if he just has dodgy wiring in his house, because he logged a few calls to his ISP, and they came back with clean results on his line. Also granted we all know how sensitive VDSL is to wiring + master filter requirements.

Now of course there are things like "interleaving" at play here which can be switched off on ADSL lines, where VDSL does the whole training period before it commits to a profile.
I would love to hear from people on this forum that have switched, was their "general" latency better or worse after the move from ADSL2 --> VDSL.

Any forumites who can share their real world results / experience ?

Perfect candidate here..

I had a 20ms ping to local servers on ADSL2.
Switched to VDSL2 and now i get a 12ms ping. When on DLM i got around 22ms ping.

Dude 300ms.... I get that to Nigeria,

USA WEST 120ms EAST 150, AU 32ms SEA 60ms,
Trademe 12ms, The Vodafone BNG i get 5ms. So i am really counting the delay of the almighty chorus network.

Just what I was hoping to hear. Myself, I get around 137 MS to servers in the US, but before I bother to upgrade to VDSL, I would love to know if there is in fact a latency benefit.
I do suspect my friend probably needs to look at things like his house wiring or investing in a master filter. From what you told me, there is an improvement.

How did your mate manage to get VDSL installed without a master filter? I was under the assumption that it was a requirement to get a master filter installed as part of the VDSL install?

Very marginal but yes does make a difference. Dont forget you would be hosted off a new "BNG" (Google it :) ) and new gear up to spec with our Fibre customers. The big difference i cared about is the upstream. I would still be happy with my 19Mbp/s throughput.

Naked VDSL it isnt exactly required.

It's great Vodafone are finally offering VDSL, but am quite surprised that Vodafone's data offerings are lower today for VDSL than they were less than 12 months ago for ADSL.

I've had a little hassle dealing with the call centre. The online address checker said I can get VDSL. I rang and spoke to a CSR who said it's not available as per the address checker on the Chorus site. Sounded odd so I contacted Chorus, who told me to ask Vodafone to do a "pre-qualification check". Rang Vodafone back and asked for that check right off the bat and presto, VDSL is available. I'm not sure why Vodafone CSR's are using an inaccurate online address checker when it seems they should do a pre-qualification check as standard to get an accurate idea.

Unfortunately due to the low data limits Vodafone VDSL is no good to me. I normally use 200GB on my current Vodafone naked ADSL connection but it has been up to 400GB in my highest month (using double data). On VDSL with other ISP's that would be around $100-$110 but with Vodafone it would be over $229/month (even factoring in the discount for my on-account mobile plan). I'll stay another couple of months till my ADSL contract expires then cancel ADSL/on-account mobile and shift.

I signed up this morning. Same price for next 12 months and one off fee of $99 which covers the modem and install. Hope I dont don't have to wait too long
