paulspain: How far off are similar plans for business customers?

You should know we can't speak about future plans / changes until official coms is released,

It wouldn't be the first time someone from Vodafone has indicated on Geekzone something might happen in the near future ;)

NikT: Here's one of those cool things I mentioned: The Data Test Drive.

Sign up to any 24 month Red+ plan, or an open term Red+ Essentials plan with a Monthly Device Payment option, and you'll get TWENTY FIVE WHOLE GEE BEES OF LTE GOODNESS for your first month to blow on all the 1080p YouTubes you like. Or other data-intensive activity. Go nuts. Stream 320k music. Use Samsung's Download Booster. Torrent things. Torrents are gooood over 4G.

I dig this.

TwoSeven: So I got a text today saying an increase in data.  One assumes that I will be upgraded to a red-essentials+ plan automatically.  Can I then take up the option of having a second sim for data?  How much does it cost for the sim etc.

You sure can (Pretty sure you could do that with Red Essentials before the Red+ upgrade too). No cost for the SIM, just pop into your local store & they'll set you up, or give us a bell on 777 & the team will fire one your way via courier. :)

I have signed up and - whilst not wishing to appear ungrateful - that one  month 25Gb thing is utterly useless to me.

There is no 4G connection unless I take the trip to Wellington. And very little I can think of that I could do in a month on a phone to use that much!

Now, it's a 24 month plan. Giving me 1 additional Gb each month instead would have actually saved you 1Gb over the plan term....!

Well to me that does sound ungrateful. The idea of this is so people can use it and then see how much they actually need.

Hmm. Since no one can get 25Gb a month on plan except at insane cost, I remain to be convinced that is the actual purpose.

To get 25Gb if that was what you ended up needing you'd need a plan that gave you 8 per month for $169 then another 17 at $20 each which would give you a bill of $509/month...!

I don't know the background of the decision to do this, but if I had to hazard a guess it would be that when people first sign up for a smart plan, get an amazeballs new phone and the four g's, the first thing they do is hammer out speed tests at 100 miles per minute so they can show them off at BBQ's. Then hilariously for some they realise how much faster 4G is than their home broadband so they download ALL THE THINGS and stream YT till the cows come home.

At least this way they get to do that and get the novelty to wear off without clocking their data in the first week before settling down to a nice comfortable average of <1Gb per month which is what most people use. (No, I am not kidding.)

Family Deals

If you sign up to one of the above Red+ plans, and have a family member who wants a Red+ plan on open term, they can have that plan at a discounted rate.

Red+ Essentials Open Term with Family discount - $49/month

Red+ Open Term with Family discount - $69/month

Red+ Super Open Term with Family discount - $99/month

What is the difference between the $29 Red Share plan and the above Family Deals?  Is it that a family deal gets their own data and the Red Share has combined data?

Precisely so. Family deals = Standalone Red+ plans/accounts at a discounted price per month.

$29 Red Share = Unlimited minutes & texts + access to the same data pool as the parent Red+ plan.

Still working on getting that particular one automated, give the team a bell on 0508 464 464 or pop into a store & they'll sort you out. :)

Can this second SIM be put in my R201 instead of a tablet? Would it allow me to drop my $10/mth Mini 512MB plan?

That could be it.

They've just switched me over to my new plan (still on my old iPhone 5) part way through the month and the 25Gb thing has been loaded - with only 13 days to use it in...!!

What can I do on an iPhone 5 with only a 3G connection available that will use that much data?!

Yep, you can pop the second SIM in anything you like. Would be ideal for a WiFi hotspot.

As your plan change has fallen partway through your billing cycle, your first full month will, I understand, also have 25GB to use. :)

Tether and download some Linux ISOs, perhaps?

geoffwnz: Question:
When on an open term plan, should it roll up as the plan changes, or do I have to re-apply for the same deal?
I'm currently on the $29 open term plan but only showing as having 500MB and 150 minutes as opposed to the current offering of 1GB and 200 minutes.

Our team are currently in the process of migrating existing Red customers to the new Red+ plans. Once your account has been migrated, you'll be receiving a text message to advise. :)

Fantastic.  :-)
I shall await the text.
Thanks.  :-)

What is the expected ETA on this migration process?
Is it still in progress or have I managed to miss the cut somewhere along the lines?  :-)

I'm still amazed that the average user out there uses less than 1GB a month...

Personally, I struggle on my new plan with 1.25GB + amonthly add-on of 500MB

I'd rather a plan that costs me $50 a month, with 30 min call time and 1000 txts, with 2.5GB of data.

There's not a lot these days at VF to convince me to stay...I can mix and match at other carriers and get more-or-less what I want...and may do so when I decide to get my new iPhone 6...

Hmm, that's weird! Pretty sure they upgraded everyone. Are you definitely on a Red plan? @johnr are you able to check what plan geoffwnz is on and if he's eligible for the upgrade?
