ZIMsar10:
paradoxsm: An offical "Vodafone New Zealand" now!

I don't recall Freitasm notifying us of an Official VF presence on these forums, therefore I think your assumption is incorrect.

I based "the assumption" on intelligent scouring, the profile for VNZ stated Alison Sykora, whom was mentioned in the herald the other day as "Vodafone head of communications"  and the details posted were very official.

Looks like I was right.

Paul or Alison, could you please confirm whether the new flat fee of $0.80c per text message sent while overseas is part of the Traveller pack (and thus opt-in) or an across-the-board change?

The 80c SMS rate and $1 rate to recieve a call is a permenent change for everyone whether on traveller or not.

Call 495 from your vodafone which will tell you the above. it's actually really informative, it appears Vodafone are doing their best to improve things.

The 20c rate used to be a gift really, even on australian networks, SMS starts at AU$0.25c usually. I had thought it went up also when the surcharge was re-introduced for on-account cusomers but they have been lucky until now!

is there somewhere that explains this in a nutshell?

It seems at the moment, I can opt into this new fandgangled smokescreen BS plan, or stay with something else. But at any rate, it'll cost me more to use my phone in Australia. There is that new site, but all I want is a nice table telling me what my options are.

Perhaps it'll just be easier to use my Telecom phone in Aus, less hassle Undecided

Better do it before 28 January 2008 though (CDMA shutdown date)...

I think you've missed the point - it won't be more expensive to make mobile calls in Australia...

Zone 1

Australia

Standard domestic rate  for outbound calls

When roaming on Vodafone Traveller in Australia, people will now pay the same standard rate as when they use their mobile in New Zealand – on any network. Previously, this deal only applied for people using Vodafone Australia’s network.

So now it's easier to use your phone in Australia because instead of trying to find the cheapest network before you go they're all rated the same so you pay THE SAME STANDARD RATE you're currently paying in New Zealand. The only difference is the price of TXT messaging as has been discussed already.

Hope that helps with your understanding,

Cheers

Paul

thanks for the reply Paul.

So I take it from your response, I'm lumped paying 80c per text message now? (regardless whether I use Vodafone, Three or whoever), instead of 20c if I had roamed with Vodafone Aus (I don't really call that much).

I do like the simplicity factor, shame about the price though Frown

:edit: Is that info on "Roaming In Australia" still applicable if I don't opt into this new deal?

ie

Vodafone Prepay

thanks for that Paul. I see the structure is very much in line with Telecom, but you are slightly cheaper.

Are the standard rates for other countries changing much from the 1st Nov? A lot of the priving listed is quite old.
