paradoxsm: Sounds all like an excuse to me, Telecom allowed full porting in and out on any service and any plan straight away and were not required to but were just happy accept customer.

Paul, Why not introduce this earlier? I suspect it's becasue You-Choose and it's associated overage catches are much more profitable.

Refer to earlier comments... we weren't required to, we didn't, we're required to by April 1, we will.

Wonder what will happen first, vodafone let people port between prepay and on account, or telecom get a gsm network working making vodafones inaction a moot point since you will be able to use good phones on telecom so who cares what network you are on ? :)

Telecom just kept it simple and let all customers port to whatever they liked from the start.

Isn't the problem their decision to use 9 digit numbers for post-paid and 10 (or 11) digit numbers for pre-paid? If they allow switching between pre and post-paid it would seem they would have to abandon that scheme.

You really think Vodafone are going to come out and say we didn't allow it because they wanted to get more revenue by forcing people onto the plans?
Their a business, they are owned by an offshore company what more is there to say?

QUESTION:

Right now i am on You choose account are you guys telling me that i can switch to super prepaid and keep my 021 ******(6numbers) without changing my number after april 1st? If that is soo its very good! my contract expires in May, i will sure change to prepaid if i can keep my number i have now. This plan is killing me, since i am a uni student.

Actually, that is not clear.....

For now, Vodafone allows porting of 027 Telecom numbers, and 021 (ex-account, not ex-prepaid) Telecom numbers to their On Account.

After the Apr 1st, as per the Commerce Com. decision, they would have to allow porting of Telecom numbers onto Prepay.

BUT..... If they want to be "restrictive" (please draw your own inference), they can perhaps still disallow porting of current On Account numbers onto Prepay. Their current "technical reason", that the prepaid and on account systems are different, could still apply and provide them with this argument.

Vodafone, let's hope not....

I fail to see why you would reward vodafone for their dragging this out to the limits put on them with your continued custom.

Telecom have a $99 portability capable handset, you get a $30 credit on your account. Moving on the day your contract expires seems to be the most prudant option.

I agree with what you are saying Richard. Because of Vodafone's attitude to their customers, I am sorely tempted to tell them to shove it, and move across to Telecom.

However, if I want to do that in February, it means moving the 4 other members of our family to Telecom as well, because they all have Motormouth Prepay which gives decent pricing for on-net calls, but horrendous pricing to Telecom Mobiles.

Which would mean I need to buy 5 new handsets

. Not really a sensible option given that Telecom's GSM network will be launched later this year.

Of course -- if Vodafone are still refusing to play ball on this issue by the time Telecom's GSM network goes live, then I will be beating a path to the nearest Telecom shop to buy 5 new SIM cards.

At least -- I presume I will be able to do that?

NZBNW: Perhaps you could confirm that Telecom will be offering that option to people wishing to port their numbers over from Vodafone?

Yea. i fall in the same boat also, i would love to change to telecom but all my friends, and family are on vodafone.. since i make more friends which will likey to be asian, since i am asian they would 90% certain to have a vodafone number than telecom.
But it still works good for me etheir, i brought a telecom phone 3 years ago i can switch that over to super prepaid when vodafone must change there policy, before April 1st. but would have problem to convince people on vodafone, to txt and call while i am on 027
