Should it not pick them up automatically?

Yes..........automatically,

These are the correct DNS settings. I would ask VF staff if they advise you to use Google DNS because something has stopped working when it has work perfectly before, to look into it more or log a fault. There is no issue using Google DNS instead of the WXC/VF ones. The only thing is some content like youtube/netflix will be served from VF caching platforms when using the correct DNS. otherwise you will be getting it from overseas servers.

@ Jeff you say the app on your phone works when you couldn't access it from your pc. was your phone connected to wifi at all on the same LAN as the pc when this was happening. Because if it was working over the wifi on the phone but not on the PC, issue is pointing to pc setting.

WXC ADSL/VDSL/UFB]
Primary DNS: 58.28.5.2 (ns1.xnet.co.nz)
Secondary DNS: 58.28.6.2 (ns2.xnet.co.nz)

VF [WN & CH HFC customwrs only]
HFC primary DNS 203.97.78.43 (ns1.telstraclear.net)
HFC secondary DNS 203.97.78.44 (ns2.telstraclear.net)

VF [ADSL/VDSL/UFB]
Primary DNS IPv4 (203.109.191.1)
Secondary DNS IPv4 (203.118.191.1)

Trust me these are the correct settings.

 >> was your phone connected to wifi at all on the same LAN as the pc

Yes.

PC and phone both on wifi.
PC didn't work using web interface
Android phone didn't work using web interface
Android phone DID work using cellular data
Android phone DID appear to work using android APP. But maybe  it was cached? I am 99% it wasn't though.

Regardless, it has worked without problem since the DNS numbers were put in.

Cheers
Jeff

Looking at the DNS settings for vodafone cable. Yes I was using those DNS addresses and couldn't access hotmail.  Now using google DNS addresses and waiting to be contacted by vfone.

Is 58.28.6.2 recursive?

i know it is listed on their web site but that may not be up to date. I'm guessing different DNS server addresses are assigned over PPP, hopefully they are the correct ones as resolver.

These are the old original ones and not the ones I received last week from Mike Hales of VF on these forums and also via a tech call to V F 2 days ago.

It seems the site imore.com is again unreachable by me at least.

Could be the site or it could be VF DNS issues again?

I am on VF cable.

I can access the site you mention using vf cable but i'm using google DNS addresses. Still awaiting a call from vfone to give me updated DNS addresses.

I have a problem accessing hotmail when using vodafone DNS settings on VF cable.. As a temporary fix vodafone advised to use Google DNS settings which has fixed the problem. Vodafone advised over a week ago that they would be in touch to give me new DNS settings. I rang them last Friday and was advised to continue using google settings and when they had found a fix they would be in touch.

Yes, logged two tickets over a period of a week. First ticket went into a black hole...

It could well be that the imore.com issue isnt just a VF issue. But the VF technical people were telling people to use google DNS which fixed that particular issue but did create others for me.

It is confusing but they tell me worse things happen at sea.

Just been on to vodafone techs concerning using google DNS to access hotmail on Vodafone cable. Was advised to continue using google DNS settings as they are changing the cable network to dynamic IP. Was advised they will be in touch but no timeline given.
