PaulBrislen:This is being done to protect the customers’ experience of the Vodafone brand
coffeebaron: This will become an issue for overseas travelers who want to load a local SIM.
Vodafone’s mobiles are sold exclusively for use on Vodafone New Zealand’s network.

allstarnz: well, full credit to Paul for coming on here and making an offical statement about this, as piss weak as it was, at least Vodafone has the nous to make an official statement regarding this, rather than letting the inuendo continue.

Is it an official statement from VF? The only news I can find on this topic in a google search, is from geekzone. Therefore I don't know if this is a media release, or whether they are still writing something to release to the media, which has a bit more spin to it.

Yes, Paul Brislen is the Vodafone voice.

I can see a lot of stores ending up importing unlocked phones. Locking phones to a particular network, certainly doesn't instill customer loyality.

So we can't take our Vodafone NZ handsets roaming any more??
That's going to be a major loss of revenue for Vodafone NZ.
If your clever Vodafone NZ toy is too exclusive to be used whilst on any other network, perhaps you should get a clever World-Mode phone from someone else :)

I think you misunderstand what has been said. You will still be able to roam overseas etc but if you have a locked handset you will need to leave your vodafone sim card in, thereby ensuring that vodafone gets the roaming revenue.
edit: beat me to it
