Some dissatisfaction starting to come through here as well:

SimonVF:

...

We are working on bringing recording to all channels. We hope to have good news soon.

Thanks.  Please keep us informed.

Is there any intention to offer a preview/cue-ing function during ffwd/rewind, or is that going to stay as is (i.e blank screen with only a timer)?

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I'd be impressed if they got fast forward and rewind working as the locally recorded sky box does.  If you've ever used a network tv setup such as MP or TVH and run them on a separate machine, you only ever can get to x8 speed forward without it starting to screw up and x16 is really hard to work out exactly where you are... Its the latency while seeking is the problem... The decoders cannot keep up with the stream shift and that is ony 1gbe network attached, internet streaming will be far worse which is why YouTube does the 10s picture blocks when you skip, you can't feed the buffer fast enough with sufficient latency to do it.

Now, If you had a large enough buffer so that the stream was held in local memory (ram or physical) then you could continuously stream to a buffer which is then read from and you could potentially FFW/RW from that.

am also an early adaptor for the newer TV product having just given up the Tbox we are on 100/20

As earlier users have noticed some of the APPs load very slowly and seem to stall the machine

Watching the catch up TV3 and TVNZ APP there are false starts then long delays for an advert to stream - bad enough to have to watch the advert let alone wonder if its crashed

I have also had the box crash at least once a night using the APP functionality - esp. You Tube

Wife not happy about limited recording options - and will be more unhappy when she finds how unstable the APPs are to watch items she cant record

Not being able to record any Prime or even have an APP for Prime is a major pain given they have some decent programs

But biggest annoying thing is the audio quality - I have a decent AMP and speaker set up, the Tbox was outputting 5.1 digital sound via optic cable and all was happy for the TV1,2,3, Prime channels

Now with new box I have found it still requires the optic cable to get 5.1, but none of the TV channels are in 5.1 suround its a PCM output that is coded for just 2 channels. Huge step back there.

I know the set up is correct for the AMP as the Netflicks APP on the new box is outputing 5.1 digital and my sound system comes to life again using all channels for the Netflix 5.1 programs

sound is very important for many tv/movie watchers and I cant understand why its taken such a giant leap backwards for all channels/ apps except Neflix????

The T-box should have been made clearly obsolete by the new box, but my family has old box envy at the moment

RE: quality just took a look

TV1 is 1920x1088 50 FPS audio is as listed as ENGLISH  AC 3 FL, FR, FC, LFE, SL, SR there is also a 2nd audio track listed as Italian MP2 Stereo

TV 2 is as above

Prime is 1440x1088 not full HD, 50 FPS video, audio is ac3 FL,FR but may be program dependent?

I don't have a fancy 5 channel surround speaker setup so can't compare on that

This thread keeps giving bad flashbacks to the T-Box nightmares of a few years back.

Are the Sky Channels coming through the same as what is on Satellite? i.e Mpeg-2, over-compressed, etc.

RustyViewer:

You can't record the main channels? What's the point?

You can do restart on TVNZ1, TVNZ2 and THREE (the latter on certain programmes) with programmes available for three days.

Went into Vodafone Queen St to play with the set up and wasn't impressed. The image was pixelated at times and then kept showing no internet connection found. I think I am going to cancel the order to switch to Vodafone TV for now.
