Anyone gone into the shop to check if the demo PVR is there yet? The 18th has come and gone.

No working model for another 3 weeks apparently, although they will have a box in store "to show people the connections"

Oh dear

I am shocked. TelstraClear missing a promise? This has never happened before!

Seriously TelstraClear, this is pathetic.

Oh, come ON. Still no DEMO UNIT on a published date?

I've seen marketing people get fired for less than this.

Another guy in my office made the jump to mysky yesterday. He phoned telstraclear, and was told "you know we've got our HD recorder solution coming out in a few months, right?". Which was exactly what he DIDN'T want to hear: he was going to stay with Telstra if they could tell him when he could expect his install.

Beyond a joke.

I switched from TCL cable to Telecom back in Nov 09 because of Tivo, this was before they made their announcement of their proposed tv box. Was a bit nervous that I had made the wrong decision and should of held off - no nerves any longer.

TCL's PVR - The DNF of NZ's TV market.

Acronym heavy, just the way I like it. :)

I often wonder how much more of NZ would have access to cable if Telstra had never bought clear/saturn.

I doubt it would have made any difference. The problem with expansion was that there were local bodies that actively blocked the rollout of the service. Auckland said no, Porirua said no..

Interesting, I didn't know that.  I always thought there was a high correlation between the cancellation of the rollout and the government softening on LLU.

Wasn't it that the Auckland council was against letting them use the power/phone poles to string the fibre/cable because as many power/phones lines as possible were/are being underground.

Didn't TelstraClear decide the cost of rolling out the network underground was too high?

Personally I prefer the power/phone/fibre lines to be underground as much as possible.

But the problem with underground it's 10 times more expensive per meter than overhead.

If you don't mind paying 10 times more for subs then I am sure tcl would have run it nationwide....

Tui billboards spring to mind.

Anyway back on topic, it's very tragic that telstra have yet again missed the mark. Last time I checked last weel they weren't even broadcasting any extra channels over the cable. So it's pretty telling that they are at least weeks away from launch... Woo hoo at least 6&7 are on there. Big step for tcl to rebroadcast fta channels. Sad, very very sad.

Me thinks tcl are doing something. Just gone from 143 services down to 53... Tv3 is dead along with a stack others. So do I need to go into my roof and boot my adb. So things are changing.

Just a quick update.... I rang the TCL shop in Courtenay Place and they still do not have any dates as to when the equipment will be ready for viewing. I do feel sorry for the guys in the shop - they must be as fed-up as we are!

Considering we are almost at the middle of the month and the staff have no firm date Now's not that good - later may be better!
