kyhwana2: So just to double check. The $1.02GB data pricing ISN'T changing other than the extra GST being applied to it, if we don't change any plans. (Im on Fusion atm.)

Correct.

Cameronn, if you have a free static IP (from ages ago) and you change from the old Fusion plan to the new Fusion plan, do you loose your free static IP and get charged $10 per month (I think) for it? Thanks.

From what I can see it is essentially the same, but slightly cheaper fixed charge and slightly higher data charge. On Fusion the break-even point is about if you use 3GB of data per month, customers that use less will benefit from the new plan.

I saw a hint of other plans coming soon, but no details yet.

Before, unless you were on Fusion you would get limited to ADSL1 speed but now everyone gets ADSL2+ speed (if your line/exchange supports it).

I think Fusion is still $69.95. The $64.95 plan is naked dsl without VFX.

I've spoken to prov & you won't lose your free static ip, as it's not part of the plan (separate entity)

New plans

Naked = FLS/FLS without VFX - doesn't require line rental $64.95
Fusion = FLS/FLS + VFX - doesn't require line rental $69.95
Clothed = FLS/FLS - must have line rental  $39.95

Data is charged at $1.28 per GB including GST.

Website is under construction as per my previous posts.

OK, I see that they have changed the specs of the HSI Plan that I was on. I believe the plan I was on was 128k upload 8Mb download. However the plan advertised on their website saying the HSI plan is now Full Speed. I have looked at my modems DSL rate and it is now showing 945Kbps upload, and 8300 Kbps download. Does this mean that all HSI are now on Full speed, and I am now on that full speed plan. Or do we have to switch to the HSI plan with the higher per GB pricing to qualify. It is very confusing.

I see Consumer has Xnet listed on their wall of shame due to their prices being hiked by more than the GSTs 2.2% rise. Not sure if it is deserved, as it appears that it maybe down to errors or conflicting information on the xnet website.

I don't blame Consumer for putting any company on there wall of shame as simply that could have been avoided by not stating their price rise was due to GST.

Instead companies could say something like "This rise is inclusive of the new GST change" as this leaves room for their rise to be anything they like. However if they say the rise is to GST then put it up by more than what the new GST rate would make then they belong on the wall of shame.

As for Xnet and new pricing I have no problems as I am on the Torrent plan and intend to stay there. I am more than happy with the service that Xnet provides and would recommend them to anyone as a ISP. No ISP is going to be perfect and people need to accept that and get over the simple fact that at times things are not going to go as fast as we would like.

Ever heard of a traffic jam??? It is not just limited to vehicles as the more people using the service means that everyone will get slightly lower speeds to their intended destination.

Overall I would rate Xnet as the best ISP I have used. (I do have to admit i have not used too many Xtra, Slingshot, Telstraclear and Kiwionline (which the name itself is misleading more than half the time I couldn't even connect with KOL).

Isn't kiwionline now owned by orcon, so it is just a rebadged orcon service?

The problem is that some companies have risen prices, to coincide with the GST rise, so that they only have to alter their pricing once. They however may not have altered their pricing at all, if the GST rise hadn't occurred. The mistake many comapnies have made . Telecom doesn't deserve to be on that list, as legally companies are allowed to round their prices up or down  under the act. I don't think too many companies are going to get in too much trouble over it, as some leway has to be given due to it being a once in a generation occurance. (At least I hope it is a one off). The last rise was over 20 years ago, and hopefully the next one will be 20 years away too.

Agree, XNet should not be shamed for pricing changes but the confusion is a bit of a blunder. So far it looks like it is best for everyone to stay on the plan they are on. Despite the price increase it does not affect any current customers. For that XNet should actually get awarded and not shamed. Indeed they are the best ISP in my opinion.

I think they are going to have to be very careful. When I checked my online usage and what I was currently being charged on the 1st of October, which was after teh GST rise came in, I saw that I was still being charged $1.02 inc GST at whilst the new 15% GST is in effect, which would be the rate for the October billing cycle. I have just tried to log in now, and see that I now have to reregister to access my account. There has been no information about this change.

If you never used viewbill then you will have to register, this is just an updated 'my accounts' page, it doesn't mean your account was changed to one of the new ones.

As for the question is KOL now owned by Orcon I have no idea. I have to admit it was quite a few years ago that I used them (and longer for Telecoms Xtra) however have still had plenty of dealings with Telecom to know they still place not enough time and money into providing a service that people are generally happy with.

In fact I could even say that I do not know a single person who uses Telecom that would say they are happy with the service and or product they get.

I can say that about Xnet for me though. I like their product and I like the service that I get (and that includes their helpdesk).

I am looking forward to when new plans are on offer in regards to Naked DSL especially.
