Everyone has right to let off some steam, As Dylan pointed out the other day (bottom of page 43) some planned work was postponed for good reason, It will now go ahead next week the business understands it's frustrating but light at the end of the tunnel is not far away :)

thanks John   none of the update regions mention Island Bay (and you see a lot of issues out here). Are we scheduled for any relief?

Is anyone else experiencing slow international performance? Downloading a Google Takeout is 300 kilobytes a second (the takeout is 5.8GB big).

I've been suffering from poor international performance for a while now. It's good at the moment (I'm actually seeing 80+ Mbps to the US!), but there are rare occasional moments where it will drop to literal dial-up speeds (sub-56 Kbps/7 KB/s).

I'm unsure how heavily it's related to the congestion, but I imagine it'll at least be alleviated a bit once everything's fully sorted out. I haven't seen anyone else's international performance suffer so badly unless they're also on the cable network.

Me too - international speeds in the morning can be very good (100/10Mbps to Sydney this morning) and then suddenly and unpredictably crash (5/10Mbps to Sydney last night).

The unreliability and unpredictability is even more cross-making than the awful "best effort" speeds.

I've been on cable for about 15 years now, and it's been awesome pretty much the whole time, until the last couple of months where I've really seen it go downhill. My family are now complaining about it continuously. I hope they manage to improves things in the very near future or we're going to have look at switching to something else.

Hi johnr, are there any areas which are completely 'done' and fully cut over, i.e. any further upgrade work won't make a difference?

Or is it a case of the whole cable network needing to be done before most users see an improvement?

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and hi Dylan - long time, no see :-)

Perhaps this doesn't belong here. Perhaps it does. It may or may not be related to ongoing work. shrug

Anyways, it's 4:30 AM and YouTube videos are having a hard time breaking 1 Mbps. Even videos that were uploaded years ago and have millions of views are performing abysmally, so it shouldn't be a CDN issue. The furthest away streams were hosted in the West Coast United States at worst, and I'm seeing upwards of 50 Mbps there at this hour.

If there's ongoing work that would have affected this, it would be nice to know. It's the dead of night on a Sunday morning, though, so it's hard to say. Either way, I can't seem to catch a break. :D

Well I guess it's a work in progress.

Was watching Netflix fine at 1080p and then Netflix said cannot reach the server.

Sounds like our connection 2 days ago - now much better.
Probably a local problem (work in progress, we hope undecided)

Right now I'm getting 97/10 and Netflix runs fine (Island Bay).

Well after a couple of hours and it wasn't getting better I power cycled the modem and it fixed things.

Not 130 but good enough.

3PM on a Sunday afternoon and I can't do a thing on a service I pay $100 a month for, for the 5th month in a row. Great.
