hairy1: I should clarify. I was running CM 4.3 on the S3 so not an official version.
I have gone over to CM 4.3 as well I could not use my S3 with the Samsung 4.3 update will wait and see if Samsung fix's the 4.3 issues before I consider going back.

Once a update is approved by Vodafone NZ it's out of our hands as we don't push out the update Samsung Korea does,

FYI Vodafone NZ never sold the i9500 so we would never approve updates for this handset model

ajobbins: Samsung stalled rollout of 4.3 many weeks ago (probably a month now) with no indication when it will restart.
They are rolling out new 4.1.2 updates still for many regions/carriers
Yes - it was stalled, then released again once the bugs were fixed. Apparently there may be a couple of minor issues (gallery?) but it's the official release and is rolling out all over the place at the moment. I am running the final stable release of CM10 4.3.1 and am pretty happy, although I did download the latest UK International version of 4.3 Samsung - when I have the time I will trial it.
To keep yourself up to date use sammobile, the firmware section is huge - make an account if you want to download. Remember any non-branded international release should install fine on any NZ S3.
Cant be far away now, I see there are a pile of Vodafone branded 4.3 versions popping up on Sammobile in the past few days. I am running Imperium ROM 4.3 and its running beautifully.

Yes but those are Vodafone EU. Last time with 4.1.2 update, EU get their update 2-3 months earlier than us. I believe that we will be getting our update sometimes in February next year.
I wouldn't hold my breathe for any update by early January. Samsung has bad a track record of slow update rolling out when it comes to Oceania region. By the time we get our update, the rest of EU would already be testing 4.4.2 update. LOL
Is there any CynogenMod ROM out there supporting exFAT memory card? I'm tempting to get on AOSP ROM but still can't find a ROM that has exFAT support. The Resurrection Remix 4.4.2 is quite nice.

I would not install a branded Samsung update - even if my phone was on Vodafone. Anyone waiting for an OTA or Kies update could be sitting around for a while. Anyone out there thinking, "Where's the Vodafone update?" is naive - download an international release of the software and you'll have no problems. I installed the Ireland 4.3 release when it first came out and it was rubbish, filled with carrier bloatware. That lasted about 10 minutes on my phone before going back to CM.
I dont miss the Samsung features and enjoy the regular updates and stability with CM.
With a little bit of reading most of you should be able to successfully update a non-rooted S3 to a newer official update without much of an issue. Have a read around, I have done it before just using ODIN, and because it's official shouldn't affect the binary counter or warranty.

I don't think you know that most of us here knew how to flash via Odin. :) There is another problem when flashing international firmware on a regional phone. Your CSC will be changed (will never get an update and will only be update-able via Odin) and to changing it back to VNZ requires flashing original firmware + Reset + flashing original firmware again to reset it (I have done this many times). And sometimes you can also lose your IMEI and as well as running into early release of update like you did there with the Ireland version. Custom ROM is good but it is not for everyone liking. Some part of the ROM may not work or buggy but if you do not use those functions then it will not bothering you. For those you uses those features will find frustration and headache. But thank you very much for your offering and response. I would rather wait for the official firmware for VNZ CSC for now before I jumping ship to CM10.2 or CM11(Until its get the Camera FC fixed).
