Downloading an update for a device... I know how that feels. 29 MB, 1 hour 22 minutes remaining.

Out of interest, is anyone here who's on the cable network have UFB available in their area?

I have both cable and UFB. Why do you ask?

Just curious to see if there are vodafone users in a congested cable area, when theres UFB fibre available. Last i checked vodafone had a policy you can't use the UFB network if the HFC network is available to you. And they did a bunch of rebranding to call their cable "ultra fast" to make it line up with UFB. Although proven by this thread, its not in the same league as much as their marketing team would like you to think.

My UFB connection is with Slingshot, not Vodafone. As far as I know VF still do not offer UFB in cable areas.

Multiple things can impact your situation......

Total network capacity; Meaning what version of DOCSIS is your cable provider running, and how saturated is the network?

Is the plant itself calibrated properly? From the headend down, they need to be sweeping their system on a regular basis, making sure their mainline amps are properly outputting as well as tap conditions being within spec.

What type of signal strength are you getting at your home, and ultimately to the end of the coax to the modem? Are they within spec? A few dB plus or minus can impact service...

Then, ....the compromised line. This can and will impact your connection, especially if your cat chewed not just through the outer jacket, but down into the dielectric. The signal doesn't actually travel through the center conductor in the line, but via capacitance in the airspace between that center conductor and the dielectric itself.

If this has been compromised, you will experience problems, absolutely. Data is extremely sensitive, especially across the cable plant. Get this resolved.

Taken from another website,
--------------------------------------------------------------

it can affect speeds big time my speeds were getting bad then the cable went completely bad were my modem couldn't even get a connection i reran a cable and now i get max speeds. If you have a surfboard modem you can go to 192.168.100.1 and check its specs

Signal To Noise Ratio= higher the better
Power Level= closer to 0 the better
upload power= over 36 under 56

mine seems to be better for the last 3 days...

I get mostly an average of 90Mbps during peak hours and rest 100Mbps..
Youtube seems to be back again as well. Could now watch 4k videos without buffering..

According to TrueNet, you're about average for Wellington cable at 9pm :

These figures are averaged over the last week.
The blue line represents a cohort of 100/10 Mbps and 130/10 Mbps cable users in Wellington.

The 9pm dip has actually improved since the memorably awful ANZAC weekend.

A month since these troubles began and still no improvement. Tonight is one of the worst; 6Mbps. At what point am I able to terminate the contract on the basis of service not being provided?
