For those doing research on the hardware it looks like Vodafone Italy are using the same or very smilar unit for their service.

Except they have an antenna input for DVB T/T2 on theirs.

O yes lovely, Another thing out of the consumers hands.

After having a good read through this thread, Congrats Vodafone.
You have rushed another terrible bit of hardware to the market and recycled another countries failure.

HG556a, SHG1500 come to mind.

It also raises the question of net neutrality. Vodafone can chose what we record, what we watch and when we can watch it and for how long.
I'd be very curious if you can skip the ads watching non live content. Like the catchup feature and recordings.
Its not the most extreme case but definitely raises that question for myself.

Designers, engineers, developers: “We’re tracking nicely, some features still to be developed and some bugs to iron out.  Not quite ready for launch yet, should be good to go about February”

Senior management, marketing, beancounters: “***k it….good enough… launch it and sell it, we need the revenue”

Product manager – sobbing quietly in the corner - mutters: “please, not again”

The Vodafone website mentions:

"Recording is now available on selected news and current affairs on TVNZ One but please note this content is only retained for 60 days, unlike all other recording content which is available for 365 days.

Selected programmes that can now be recorded are:

  • Breakfast
  • 1 News at Midday
  • 1 News at 6pm
  • Seven Sharp
  • 1 New Tonight
  • Hyundai Country Calendar
  • Fair Go
  • Te Karere"

The only television I really watch these days is stuff I have recorded. When you pay this amount of money for Free and Sky content and cannot record it is pathetic.

If that's an attempt to appease some of the gripes that have been expressed it's a pretty damn lame one.

The sky sport add on is $29.90 a month for vodafone tv, the same as the satellite price. However found out today when I went to watch some golf vodafone tv does not have sports pop up channels 3 and 4.

I have always said the VF is just a marketing company with little regard for customers.

This new product "seems" to be a classic example of a total waste of money on VF's part and customers. Unless the service is super cheap compared to Sky, why take it? Its nonsense.

This saga with the new Vodafone TV just gets worse and it is unbelievable that this upgrade? has been handled SO badly .

I've lost count of how many weeks this saga has gone on for, days with no TV, hours on their helpline, which itself is a contradiction of terms, no shows of technicians and when they did turn up not knowing what they were there for, 3 T-boxes before they got one to work and de-provisoning the broadband router at the same time.

I thought that it was all sorted and that we were back on the T-box with the same service we had before this disaster started and the person on the help desk said that due to all the stuffing around they would throw in the sky basic package for no charge. Silly me I didn't think the free bit was only for 2 weeks.

How wrong I were, as I got a call this morning from believe or not  a department called the "re-tension department" telling me that the service I had on my T-box prior  to this disastrous update to their new improved and ground breaking service that couldn't provide the basic option of the T-box i had before all this, was no longer available and the only option available was Sky Basic at $39 a month. I said that I had Freeview prior to the change over to Vodafone TV so why can't I still have and apparently it is because I am a new customer/subscriber and Free-view is only available to exiting customers!!!!!!!!!!!

This is unbelievable and I guess the next battle is going to be that I am signed up to a contract period and they will try and charge me a fee for breaking my contract.

I haven't heard of anybody out there that is happy with their Vodafone TV so if you are thinking of changing over, based on my experience i wouldn't recommend it.

P.S If anybody has had a good experience with the new system I would love to hear from them
