@bramwell can you get VDSL?? This should you faster upload speed

No I don't believe we can.  We're in a rural area with an old system.

@bramwell Have you put your address into the Chorus address checker?

Thanks, their checker tells me VDSL is not supported here  :-(

Thanks - we did consider Starlink but they very expensive!

We're now on the waitlist for Uber, Whangarei.  They can't consider us for at least a couple of weeks yet.

How far away from the wifi router are you standing when you make a call that doesn't work? Far away perhaps?

I'd also do a speedtest on the iPhone 8 and see what the results are, maybe you've got a really poor wifi signal too compounding those already high jitter figures? Man this must be so frustrating for anyone non IT technical!!

For what it's worth, I turned it on on my S21, and think the calling quality is worse too, often dropping out, and I've spent a lot to make sure my wifi around my house is mint. I personally feel wifi calling isn't quite ready for primetime just yet - only for early adopters who are willing to tinker for the geek factor...

Packet loss can spoil your VoIP experience.  Below is the packet loss on our rural adls.  (Note that Samknows is the only thing connected to our adsl; we use Starlink for broadband now).

Wifi calling and “VoIP over ASDL” don’t work well on our ADSL.

I'm only about 3 metres from the modem!

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

This is probably exactly the same issue from 5 years ago when you were having problems with the Suresignal. Something will be competing for bandwidth on your connection, probably the upload as that is the most constrained (i.e. it's slow). Did you ever complete the suggested troubleshooting and establish what was causing it?

Put your address in here as if you were signing up for broadband and see what options it provides. Don't forget to check if there are other plans to the left or right of those shown.

It tells me I can get Farmside, which is a rural service.  However I contacted Farmside directly and they tell me that the tower is already at full capacity and there is a waitlist for it.

The checker also tells me we can have various Rural Broadband options but Vodafone have not mentioned that at all when we have been in very long and involved discussions recently, so I don't believe those Rural broadband options are available to us. During discussions with Vodafone they have said the only rural option we have is Farmside - and so we go around again in a circle!  😆

Thank you so much Geeks for all your help!

We've just made another call using WIFI on our cellphone and it's working beautifully!  So something must have clicked into place  😄

Might still be worth continuing to pursue those other broadband options as well.

Yes I think we'll continue with Uber in Whangarei.  Thanks for your advice  😄
