steve98: I have spotted a way to get a 16GB 3GS out-of-contract for $1049 from that page. Price on $40 plan is $699. Early termination fee 0-6 months is $350. 699 + 350 = 1049. If they refuse to sell one to you outright at $1179, simply throw that ball in their court.

I noticed this as well. And might consider doing it.
1. It'll be cheaper
2. I'll be able to get it on launch day

 providers like 2 degrees, Telstraclear

Telstra is just vodafone with a different logo, its still (going to be) vodafones network.

Yes, but Telstra aren't reselling Vodafone plans. They will be creating thier own plans/pricing. They are merely using the Vodafone infrastructure.

Basically in other words: Like Black + White

Regardless; If I were to even bother changing to a diffrent "provider". I would move to someone like Telecom, completely different from Vodafone. Not someone who is just using the same network i was already on.

well, based on the current state of the VF 3G networks speed, it might be worth the wait to see if Telecom comes out with it. Seems a bit mad to buy a new unit that is slow as an old goat when it tries to connect to the internet.

PaulBrislen: The stores may be an option for this in future but for now, at launch, we're avoiding the pirates.

Guess with all the years of people bringing handsets _into_ NZ to get around the insanely high VF prices that when things go the other way its freaking you out a bit too much eh?

I am also really interested in buying it on say the iphone $40, and then cancelling it early, and coming away with it handset only for $1250.

Is there any reason why this would not work?

Is it really that slow at the moment, even in main centres?

TNZ must be hating that they can't annouce whatever they're doing with the iPhone at the moment for whatever reason...

You twisted bastards vodafone, I am on a Vodafone Contract at the moment, i have no Vodafone mobile at the moment because i sold the ones i did have to pay for a New iPhone, and you are trying to tell me i can not go and buy a iPhone 3GS to run my vodafone Sim in that still has 16Months to run on.

Vodafone are truly twisted, you also can not supply the service so what if people do use them on another supplier you know yours is outright sh!t.

So Paul what do you suggest i do if i want a iPhone on Friday? Huh

I have been waiting weeks and have put off buying one from overseas knowing i could buy one here.

are you gunna help us out and give us Non pirate guys a code so we can buy one?

PaulBrislen:  The other alternative is not to offer it handset only at all, and that's just not going to work...

cheers

Paul

You're right that's not gonna work cause you/Vodafone KNOW people would just go to MagnumMac and that would bite into a lot of sales, which this "Pirate Stopping" stunt Vodafone are pulling is going to anyway.

Cheers

Just tested again 2:33pm Mt Roskill Auckland, Full reception 113kb's D/L 89kb's U/L speed on VF 3G network. That ain't worth $1250

Are you serious?? There is nobody to blame for your predicament other than yourself! Thanks for the laugh though.

Order a new iPhone online on Friday and wait for it to turn up next week. That way you can still "buy a iPhone 3GS to run my vodafone Sim in that still has 16Months to run on"
