robbyp: OK, I see that they have changed the specs of the HSI Plan that I was on. I believe the plan I was on was 128k upload 8Mb download. However the plan advertised on their website saying the HSI plan is now Full Speed. I have looked at my modems DSL rate and it is now showing 945Kbps upload, and 8300 Kbps download. Does this mean that all HSI are now on Full speed, and I am now on that full speed plan. Or do we have to switch to the HSI plan with the higher per GB pricing to qualify. It is very confusing.

I see Consumer has Xnet listed on their wall of shame due to their prices being hiked by more than the GSTs 2.2% rise. Not sure if it is deserved, as it appears that it maybe down to errors or conflicting information on the xnet website.

Hi Robbyp,

We previously had 4 ADSL plans ;

Flood = FLS/FLS
River = FLS/128
Stream = 256k/128k
Fusion = FLS/FLS

Given you remember 128k up it sounds like you are on the River plan without looking up your details.  Your modem will always sync at the best rate it can but your upload will be limited to 128k.

It's only if you decided to change to a new plan would the rates and speeds differ - status quo remains,  bar the 12.5 - 15% GST increase.

Thanks
Cameron

Just wondering when the new plans come into effect.
Because if they already have I have noticed no change in my speeds from my river plan with FLS down and 128k up

The new plans only come into effect if you wish to change to them.  Your current plan will not be changed, it will stay exactly the same bar the GST rise.

If you wish to change to a new plan you can call us on 0800 123 123 to discuss :)

Good question, if I'm looking at the right account these are your current ADSL modem stats.

  • Parameter Value (U) Value (D)

  • lqd.parameter.actual.bitrate 672 7616

  • lqd.parameter.attainable.bitrate 696 8384

  • lqd.parameter.rel.capacity.occupation 96 97

  • lqd.parameter.attenuation 3.2 4

  • lqd.parameter.loop.attenuation 3.2 4

  • lqd.parameter.noise.margin 13.2 16.5

  • lqd.parameter.actual.psd -38 -49.5

  • lqd.parameter.power 12.3 10.1

You are extremely close to the exchange by the looks of things.  For some reason your profile is set to ADSL1 speeds on the DSLAM -  I'm not sure if this was due to a compatibility issue or something else.  You are connected to an ADSL2+ capable DSLAM so we could log a fault and get your profile changed.

In saying that it wouldn't make any difference if you were on the River plan (your download is limited to around 4.5Mb due to the 128k upload).  However if you were to change to a FLS/FLS plan and we changed your DSLAM profile you may see 20Mb down 1Mb up (as long as your modem is capable of ADSL2+ speeds).

Um not an exchange but a cabinet.
I might be set to ADSL1 because when I joined ADSL2 was not avaliable in my area, only had my local cabinet upgraded around June July I think.
Seeing as my modem is ADSL2 capable if I did go to the new plan would it cost more to get my DSLAM profile set to ADSL2?

Are there any key differences / advantages moving to the new plans?

E.G. is this a move to new Telecom Wholesale service, any performance advantage over the old plans?

With the increase in data cost, does this equate to better international performance for these new plans?

Wouldn't cost a penny to change the profile,  we'd just log a ticket with Wholesale who'd change it within 24 hours.

Awesome, I will be changing at the end of this month to the FS/FS plan.
Do I just ring your helpdesk to get that ticket logged with wholesale?

If you want I can arrange the fault ticket now and get them to switch the profile at the cab (you will be able to see what kind of speeds you'll get).  You can then call closer to the end of the month to change to the FS/FS plan :)

Hard to comment on this one as I don't manage any of those components.

I'm fairly certain the increased data cost is there to improve speeds seen at peak times.  To provide a quality network which will allow people to do whatever they want to do, whether it's peak time or not.  I'm not sure if you'll see an immediate difference switching to the new plans.

There are also some other plans in the pipeline which will be out soon (to go with the enhanced services available from Wholesalers).

Thanks that would be great, do you need any extra information from me to make sure they get the right profile?

100% certain I've got the right one,  I've just logged a ticket with Wholesale.  Give it 12-24 hours and have a look at your sync rates.

Only if I was an admin for Geekzone,  just based my search off the last name listed in the profile, as it turns out it's not a common last name :)
