What speeds do you get?

anyone else with cable or fibre what speeds do you get?

"FibreX" 200/20 Mbps, Wellington, ethernet, using a file manager:

My fastest speed tests and downloads are always from the the South Island.

EDIT

A bit slower without a file manager:

When testing to servers that are not Vodafone, there is about a 10 second delay to start the test.

I can't be bothered going back and reading this thread to find this answer, but humour me.

Get the windows 10 Ookla speedtest app and remove the browser and Flash from the equation. Just try it.

Routing has changed recently. CS:GO used to be 46-52 ping now its dropped to 42-47.

I have found that speedtest is not reliable at gigabit speeds. Best way for me to test speed is load up uTorrent and see what happens. The max I have seen is 110mb/s on a SSD. uTorrent crashes at 85mb/s when using mechanical drives.

Its come up multiple times on here if you are still using the HG659 provided by vodafone then you can not complain about speed or issues with the line. The HG659 is not suitable for the connection.

Fair cop - I recall that Telstra Global used to change routing frequently for TelstraClear's international connection, always driven by paying the least amount of $$$ for traffic. If it broke something or changed latency... too bad. Complaints and faults would usually get things corrected but that could take up to 5 days to happen (lodge the fault, collate and send to Reach, get them to do something etc)

Regarding the HG659. I'm not a fan of this widget, but a few knowledgeable folk on here have also stated it's not as bad as being made out. Certainly a $30 device will never compete with a $250 one, but I wonder if it's more intolerant of poor connections rather than utter trash. I used the HG630 with Chorus VDSL with Bigpipe last year and it performed ok, but I offloaded the wireless to my own kit and just used the HG as a router.

Forgot to say, that's on 100/20 fibre with Xtra/Spark.

I maybe wrong here...but we have 6 pages of bitching from one guy who expects 1gbit torrenting?

He has called VF reluctantly once and I have no clue what he expects from this group.

I'll add this to my list of incidents where someone complains about the performance on some variant of a gig-like service, only to eventually find out that the issue was with their setup, or wasn't an issue at all... The ratio of people complaining about 'gig' service performance to people actually having 'gig' service issues is pretty crazy.

Cheers - N

ps. Someone lock this eh?

Will not quite, everyone is shooting me for saying I'm demanding a gig service. That's never what I have been asking for and only what a few people who won't read my OP have come up with!!! My only question was why is my gig service is performing worse than my last connection 100/10. Seriously getting sick of being made out to be the bad guy here, VF has shown us in the past what they are capable of. My only fault was that I took to long to ring VF, I explained why I didn't want to ring them because of so much time wasted talking to them with no resolution in the past with other issues. This was no different and I knew the response I would get, restart devises, don't use WiFi etc etc, and I'm still waiting for them to call me back, just as I predicted. But go ahead and lock it, because like someone said earlier, I'm not getting anywhere, I'm just some dude "Bitching" and "moaning" like some have said. I can't wait until their connection is downloading in the KB's and then see them on here asking for help.

Did you ask for an official fault ticket number? Call back will not be straight away for a start it's Christmas / New Year holidays

I asked but he said it won't be created until today because he did not log a fault, he then said he will call back at 9am this morning.

Yeah, you are wrong. This is from my OP - Real world speeds on thing's like Steam, Origin and torrents and normally no better than when I was on 100/10 Mb/s. At time they are pretty good, but then they plummet. What does happen when I get a good speed while downloading, it ramps up nicely, I smile, then I watch it fall down, often to a crawl of KB/s, I change download servers, same thing.

Well there is your problem its like being passed to Level 2.... Goes absolutely no where. The person you talked to is a filter for Vodafone if they can take your call and fix the issue without raising a job # they look like they are doing well.

FYI. Life lesson #30 With all call centers if you don't have a number then there is nothing recorded against what your calling about.

Since Vodafone's network is very large and complex, I wouldn't be surprised if it was somehow related to how traffic is routed in this case.

For starters, going from DOCSIS 3.0 to 3.1 (FibreX) traffic originates from different ASNs 4768 vs 9500 with seemingly different peering policies and there are different CDN locations for Steam and Akamai content. For example on DOCSIS 3.0 there was an 'on net' Steam content cache whereas there isn't on DOCSIS 3.1/FibreX/AS9500 and such content may need to be downloaded from say Australia.

Yup that's right because I notice some Steam content downloads pretty good, then I try another game and its in the KB's and says it will takes weeks.
