steve98:nzbullet: Arrr me hearties, off t' MagnumMac t' buy me iPhone then
Arrr! I propose we all don PIRATE GEAR, get grogged up, and burst into Vodafone stores with our shiney new booty in our hand from Magnum Mac and yell ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR until the scurvy dogs beg for parlais!
Ellisande: I am also really interested in buying it on say the iphone $40, and then cancelling it early, and coming away with it handset only for $1250.
Is there any reason why this would not work?

motorwayne: Prices and plans are fine by me....if the 3G cellular network speed was decent.
Compared to vodafone's other plans/subsidies, the iPhone (and Smart) plans actually look tempting... in a perverse sort of way:
Why do the iphone plans get much bigger subsidies that the other plans, even though you are spending approximately the same amount for a similar-ish package of calls/texts/data?
e.g. voda's own example (iphone on you choose):
Txter plan + data = $69.90 per month for 60 minutes, 600 texts, one best mate and 200MB data (this doesn't seem to be limited to the iphone, seems to apply to all handsets)
cf.
iphone $60 plan = $60 per month for 60 minute, 200 texts, no best mate at 250MB data (add a best mate for $6)
So these plans look as though you are getting a similar sort of package.
But...
The txter plan option gets a $210 subsidy, but the iPhone plan gets a $530 subsidy (16GB is $1179 - $649 on $60 plan = $530; 32GB is $1379 - $849 = $530).
Either of these plans would suit my circumstances (since they're pretty much the same). I have been looking at a few different handsets, including the iPhone and Magic, but have also looked at Blackberries, Nokias and WinMos. It seems daft to me the phones that start at a lower price point (e.g. Nokia E71 @ $949 or BlackBerry Curve 8900 @ $999) can get a couple of hundred dollar maxsubsidy, but the "premium" (or perhaps over-hyped) iPhone can get a $500+ subsidy.
I suspect this is more of an issue about the (lack of) subsidies on the other plans, rather than praising the iPhone plans, but the iPhone is looking pretty tempting at this stage...

Yeah I'm with you on that. I've got no issue with the plan or handset price as the iPhone $80 plan has worked out brilliantly for me for the last 12 months.
I just want to know whether I can do an early resign on Friday given that it's 1 day less than 12 months since I orginally signed up (11 July 2008). Perhaps I may be waiting till next week which isn't a major.
Newguy: You twisted bastards vodafone, I am on a Vodafone Contract at the moment, i have no Vodafone mobile at the moment because i sold the ones i did have to pay for a New iPhone, and you are trying to tell me i can not go and buy a iPhone 3GS to run my vodafone Sim in that still has 16Months to run on.
