LOL You take everything so personally. My comments are my own not of anyone else and most certainly not of my employer. Seriously Screeb, anyone would think you had nothing better to do than moan. Remember you, me and everyone else has a brain and can make our own decisions as to whom we wish to spend our $$s with.

I didn't take it personally. I took it as a customer and on behalf of all the other TelstraClear customers.

I knew you'd say something about it being your own opinion - of course. That doesn't change the fact that you ARE a TelstraClear employee, and as such, you are an implicit representative. Do you really think they want you going around telling their customers to "stop whining" when those customers know you're an employee? Do you think Telecom would have cared if the call centre person in Manila added "(not the opinion of my employer)" to the end of their "f*** you" txts? Maybe TelstraClear doesn't care - but that gets back to my point.

What you don't seem to get is that not everyone has the luxury of being able to change providers on a whim. As such, the only thing one can do is complain. As long as I'm stuck with TelstraClear, and as long as they're still repeatedly breaking promises, I'm not going to stop "whining".

I really want the PVR, to replace the analogue unit ( anyone remember KiwiCable) I have been bought as a customer at least twice, and pay my bills.

How about giving my access to something I want as a customer that you have been promising for how long.

I am happy to keep paying Telstra even though they do not have a mysky equivalent and no, I am not a employee. Why because only the introduction of Saturn in the 1990's made Telecom reduce its fees (and only where Saturn was from memory).

On a side note, I challenged the group that were anti the Saturn cables on power poles. Why were they anti Saturn cables but pro trolley bus wires? I was told trolley bus wires are good for community. Go figure.

And one of the groups in Wellington who complained about overhead cabling and wanted everything underground then complained about the green boxes containing the JE and TAP popping up all other the place. Go figure..

Just checked again this morning and still no services.. In fact it has dropped from 142 to 135. Seems like they shutdown all the "Test" services that weren't being used anyway.

I still am very doubtful that any test boxes will be seen in March.. Let alone delivering services in anger to real paying customers.

'spose we will wait and see.

but Cox cable has had to overcome quite severe licensing issues and court challenges to get this far and even then it's not out yet.

That would be cool since we would never have to worry about how much storage we had on our DVR's - it's all at the head end.

I do recall a conversation with TCL folks a while ago saying this was an option but licensing issues could well stymie them here also.

" Software integration issues have delayed the launch of a digital video recorder that will let TelstraClear offer its 40,000 cable television customers in Wellington and Christchurch the same features now provided by MySky and TiVo.

TelstraClear's rudimentary set- top boxes have long been the weak link in its "triple play" phone, broadband and TV offering.

TelstraClear had said it would begin selling high-definition digital video recorders (DVRs) in February that could pause and rewind live TV and record programmes straight to a built-in hard drive. They will be priced at $499, or $15 a month, plus installation.

Television product manager Jeff Doyle says the first bulk shipment of the DVRs, built by Irish manufacturer Digisoft, is due to arrive in the next couple of weeks.

But two separate software integration issues mean it is best they don't yet go on sale. It is not yet clear whether the delay will be one of weeks or months.

Mr Doyle says the first issue concerns the integration of digital rights management (DRM) technology in the boxes with TelstraClear's servers. Integration is complicated by the fact DRM has to work across both its new and existing set-top boxes. The second concerns a software feature that lets users rewind and fast-forward programmes at high speeds.

Digisoft was not at fault. "The hardware is good. We are 95 per cent of the way there with the software, but the last 5 per cent is the hardest part when you get to pulling all of the systems together."

Mr Doyle says TelstraClear is disappointed by the delay but an agreement with Television New Zealand means the DVRs will be able to show all HD programmes broadcast free-to-air and on Sky TV in high definition.

"We are late to market compared to what Sky has done, but we are looking to the future. We are not just a pay-TV provider. We are a broadband provider and can deliver a lot of clever stuff on this box."

Digisoft's DVRs are based on Java software and could let users download programmes and access websites on their televisions.

Customers could use their televisions as screens for video calls and play HD movies downloaded from memory sticks. However, Mr Doyle says none of those features would be available when the boxes first go on sale. "

I can't wait having waited so long already. But I wonder if you have to subscribe to some sort of Sky HD package to get HD programming. For example I have Sky Sports though I had thought of cancelling it. If this box give me Sky Sports in HD for only $15/month for the box I could be tempted.

But as usual DRM is going to be the nuisance factor. I currently record HD content on a GBPVR box which I play with a Popcorn. Because the PVR is networked I can actually view that content from another PCH in my living room going through a 1080P projector (As an side TV3 programming on a 1080P projector looks quite reasonable and with the DD5.1 audio a great TV experience).

I would imagine to watch the content on the box in another room you would either have to get very long cables (!) or another box and they are networked somehow.
