Some people will be able to write articles and post on Geekzone (main site). These will be writers or "Contributor". These articles will only go live if an "Editor" or "Admin" approves them.

An isolated case that will no doubt become more and more common, as younger and younger children obtain phones. Resources should be directed into prevention, the worst of come of trying to do something about it before it comes widespread is ‘wasting money’ but if one is wrong, then a while lot more money will need to be spent, on something that could have been prevented. Don’t get me wrong, I am not one for the ‘Big Brother’ approach to things, but if this becomes more widespread something has to be done.

You seem to have an issue with CALLING people????

You get to an age where texting is too ineffecient, sure its great for the usual "I'm running late" type banter, but to carry out a whole conversation is a great waste of time IMO. I don't agree with kids having cellphones at school, there really is no need for it.

Give me one good reason why a child under the age of 15 NEEDS a cellphone??

I supplied my ten year old daughter a cellphone that can only call me :-) no texting.

Soon I will 'upgrade' her to a Kyocera which can also text people I add to her contact list (me, her other family members), but will be locked down so she cant text her friends.

I can call her anytime, she can call me anytime. Gee i love that capability....

We have a 'spare' prepay cell that we give to our almost-twelve year old daughter if she visits friends so she can get hold of us no matter where she is and so we can get hold of her if required. Other than that she has no access to it. It's a Kyocera so I might try and lock it down as Tony suggested.

Fifteen year old son has his own cell phone but he never takes it to school and really only uses it for the above. He does send/receive a few text messages, but generally doesn't seem to come close to 500 texts a month.

Three neices aged 12 and under have their own cell phones with no control over use and it shows.

I never said that I think kids under 15 should have cellphones.

All I disagreed with here was when someone said it would be good if the price of text went up, so then people would call more instead of texting. That just simply isn't true for many people because calling is too expensive and a lot of people dont want to talk to the person sometimes!

For example, 18 year olds would text for fun.... to be social! Sure if your out doing business, calling is going to be much more efficient than texting in most cases, but there are different markets here!!

1st of all due to the lack of P2T devices on Vodafone that may prove to be a hard sell. Price is also an issue, at least on Vodafone.

I'm not trying to blame cell phones, I myself 'txt' but in the whole I prefer to make phone calls.

TXT messaging has its place, and will be around for a while to come, and competing services such as P2T haven’t really taken off here like in the USA. In short something needs to be done if the becomes more wide spread.

Why do you get the strange idea I am defending Vodafone? Yes Telecom has lots of P2T devices, I can’t speak for what Vodafone does, but I believe I was referring to RSI from txt messaging. All I am saying is something may need to be done to combat this before this gets out of hand. P2T IMHO is not the service to counter act this within the current New Zealand mobile market. Also kiwis don’t seem to like it when everyone knows they are on their mobile, and P2T isn’t exactly the most private of conversation tools.

Hmm, guys, any guesses as to their promotions after free txt weekends (if they change and have new offers)...

My guess, is that if there is no more weekend free txt, maybe they'll have free calling at night! Maybe just between mobiles, perhaps limited to 10min calls and only between Vodafone mobiles. Something like the promotions most mobile carriers had in Australia last year, 10cent calls for Vodafone and Optus AU 7pm-7am, and free calls for "3".

Seems like a good promotion. It won't affect Vodafone much because of no mobile termatination rates (just between vodafone mobiles), and it seems like a good fit into a void within their plan structures. Even their "You Choose plans-nights and weekends Addons are for any mobile"..... It would encourage quite a bit of customer loyalty too, and it's different enough from Telecom's $10txt!

I just think for the teenage mobile user, Push 2 Talk could quite easily replace texting!!
