You’ll probably won’t feel so great when you realise that:

a) Your new price only lasts 12 months, after that it goes up automatically to $105 per month

b) Telecom have just permantently upped the data allowance on their packages again ($85 for 30GB now), so had you stayed where you were you would probably only be slightly worse off compared to telstraclear ($75 for 40GB), and had no $80 connection fee to pay and no down time or ringing round call centres sorting things out.

Jaxson: Telstra arranged to have our internet cut off from Vodafone on Friday and we are yet to receive a modem/info letter with usernames and passwords etc from them. Wife just tried calling them and got cut off after 22 minutes and then had to leave, so at least another day most probably without the internet. It still hasn't been that long in the grand scheme of things, but it's a clear reminder of why people don't want to move in NZ. Wife is already asking what have we done, as Vodafone were awesome in the year or so we've been with them.

Just to follow up here, we got the internet working tonight. I am using an existing modem as I still have not received anything, modem or letter etc, from Telstra Clear.

Seems it was as simple as maybe the original password we provided was not entered correctly, as once reset the modem kicked into life and we had an ADSL lock light up etc. Not sure if it was only this as was put on hold whilst they looked into some things?

Speed seems fine and am just awaiting the modem and first bill to check if there is a joining fee charge or not. Not sure if Gary did anything specific, my wife was on the phone a few times this afternoon, but it's all working now so must say thanks to Gary too.

don't forget the first two months are free though = $150 in front, and there's no connection fee if moving over from telecom, so if they were charged one, this is most likely a mistake and will be refunded = more in front

On today's prices, I would switch to 20Gb, would then be $80 + $15.
But 11 months is a long way off......

We also got a Netcomm NB304N router but it's wireless signal strength is not as good as the Belkin Wireless N router we were using.

Ha, I'm doing exactly the same thing now but am getting speed test results of about 1/3rd the speed of my existing Belkin G Wireless Router. I've still got the old one setup so it's very easy to switch between the two to compare right now.

The new netcomm one is ADSL2+ but I would have hoped that would make it faster....

ohhkaaaayyy... signed up for the $75 a month deal about a month ago... due to commence 24th April because my current telecom month ends on the 26th of each month (so easy change-over timing)... a week after signing up they phoned me saying, something like, the first person had made a mistake and not got some details from me, and that i couldn't get their new fibre optic connection and would have to stay on the old copper one(?) Something like that... but essentially it would be the same as the telecom one i was already on so no problem... i lost track of time and phoned them on the 24th as i haddn't received the modem they said they would send me... in fact, apart from the subsequent telephone call letting me know of a mistake they made, i hadn't received any correspondence from them at all... so i phoned them up on the 24th to ask what was happening and they pretty much didn't know me at all... they thought i had signed up for cable tv... so basically i have had to start again... basically one more month of more expensive telecom bill because of telstra... oh and they said they would phone me today about this and guess what...? no call from them... so i guess i'll have to set aside an hour to phone them again tomorrow... worryingly i have heard of people waiting months for this... unbelievable

Well Im a 30-40 year Telecom customer and rang them up telling my preference to stay with them and would they match the offer of TelstraClear, but the only turkey talk they would do with me was a free month on their home plan which costs $10 more, 10Gb less, no 2 free months. Not exactly being appreciative of their long-term prompt paying customers I thought.

i emailed Greg about my troubles above and he appears to have promptly resolved them. I'm happy again, although haven't physically transferred over yet so still feeling a bit cautious

I took the TelstraClear $75 deal and switched from Telecom last week.

While it's $25 a month cheaper than the best deal Telecom offered me to stay with them (I'd been paying $130 for a similar broadband and phone package), I'm seriously regretting my decision to switch companies. I've had major problems with my internet speed, with hopeless streaming video quality and many websites taking forever to load. None of this occured with my excellent, albeit expensive, Telecom connection. I've called TelstraClear twice for an answer, only to be told both times (after waiting on hold for ages!) that the signal looks strong... I'm seriously unimpressed, and would gladly pay the difference to revert to my previous, faultless, Telecom connection. Where's the Buyer's Angst emoticon when you need it?

I wrote to Telecom management about their apparent lack of negotiability for a long-term customer but their reply was no different than their support staff 'sorry but thats the best we can do'.
However, there is a hidden adgenda in the TelstraClear plan I was not aware of. If you check the ad out, you are getting free 40Gb for 12 months. After that it TC plan reverts to paying internet which brings the price up to around $110/pm, making the Telecom offer more honest and better imho.

Thanks for the info about poor connection, which would seem to be an issue of bandwidth throttling rather than connection parameters due to the large number of other folks who have similar problems.

Had an interesting discussion with a Telstraclear sales person who knocked on my door this afternoon.
After the usual sales spiel, he wanted to know who I had my phone and internet with, and how much data we used. So told him phone Xnet voip($11.50) & Vodafone naked for internet(20G@$45)).
Well I was offered a landline+ 40G internet(ADSL2+) and they would match the $56.50 I currently pay!!
