the Vodafone Ultra Hub on Fibre or HFC (iPoE) doesn't seem to allow setting of MTU but I believe its 1500.
but I think this issue only effects the gen 2 (we have a gen 1 that is working fine)

Just a question - for those of you using ethernet do you have your router set to use "green" ethernet?
I have experienced this issue with my connections tested as follows.
1.Wired Ethernet to Orcon router
2. Wifi activated on Orcon router and VFTV connected thus with my MESH router turned off
3. Wired Ethernet to my Google Wifi router
4.Wifi connected to my Google router (Orcon Wifi deactivated.
Interestingly this morning I tested it before heading out and the VFTV turned on by pressing the power button on the remote and connected OK with my LG TV.
@MikeB4 When you did this testing were you on the current Software version 5.1.5711.06jfa(NZ) (released I believe on 3/12/2019 or 4th to general public) because I have not noticed these problems after starting beta testing of Software version 5.1.5711.06jfa(NZ) although it did occur on the first reboot of beta 57.11b release (which was not released to the general public) it did not occur on the current 57.11ca release (Software version 5.1.5711.06jfa(NZ)) to me but this could mean that the first of either 57.11b or 57.11ca released encounters this problem on the first restart? Don't ask me how the Vodafone release numbering works as it does not appear to relate to update version numbers or UI versions.
So the power on/off issues may have only occurred for the first restart after Software version 5.1.5711.06jfa(NZ) was released and received by your VTV plus on prior versions on multiple days, but hopefully won't occur tonight/tomorrow or in the future (except perhaps upon the first restart after an update).

IvanPiacun:alasta:I won't be fiddling with any settings on my router because I'm on a Vodafone connection with a Vodafone smart hub.
The reason why I exclusively use Vodafone services is the same as the reason why I exclusively use Apple equipment - it should all interconnect seamlessly and avoid compatibility issues or passing the buck when things go wrong.
Just out of interest sake though are you on an MRU/MTU of 1500 though or am I looking at a red herring?

I have just checked the advanced settings on my Vodafone Ultra Hub and can confirm that it has 'AdvLinkMTU' set to 1500. I'm not a computer buff so I'm not going to change it without understanding the implications, but it would be good if someone from Vodafone could confirm or deny the theory that this is at least a contributing factor to the problems described here.
To be honest I would be gobsmacked if the Vodafone TV and Vodafone Ultra Hub had default configurations that were incompatible with each other, so I really doubt that this is the smoking gun.

This is an interesting theory. I use my device infrequently and last night, when I was having significant problems, was probably the first night that I used it since the most recent update. I tried turning it on again just now and it started up without any fuss.
I will try it again tomorrow night and report back.

Tonight my unit displayed the usual 'unable to connect to the Internet' message, but this time it still didn't connect even after leaving it for several minutes. The process to get it working involved:
- Turn off at the wall, and back on again.
- Go into settings and select my Wifi network.
- Enter my Wifi password.
- Get an 'unable to connect message'.
- Wait a minute, and then it connects.
I can't go through this sort of thing every time I want to watch TV, so I've decided to give it another couple of weeks and if the reliability issues are not resolved then I will have to get rid of it.
I am thinking that these units are not fit for purpose
I have been through a month of contacting Vodafone multiple times trying to get my VTV gen 2 box to connect and be stable on Wifi. Some Vodafone techies did not even know about the gen 2 box and I kept being asked to video the box to prove it had a wps button.
In the end I finally got through to a Vodafone techie who knew what he was talking about and also was an example of good customer service. The solution was simple, we changed the router channel setting from auto to a specific channel and it has been fine from that point onwards.
Router and VTV box less than 3 metres apart.

I believe this may have occurred because of the update to the latest version of the firmware as this appears to have dropped support for 2.4GHZ WiFi and now only supports 5GHZ which makes sense as this is the only WiFi frequency that can cope with the potential traffic of VFTV. So this problem should not happen again as this now leaves the device fit for purpose.

There was never 2.4 GHz support.

Tonight my unit reported no internet connection when I turned it on, and eventually connected after a few minutes.
So, that would appear to rule out the theory that the fault only occurs immediately after a software update.

I wonder if this could be due to your router being set to Auto Channel and changing it's channel between certain times that you use it and the VTV not detecting this change for a period of time when it is turned on. I know I have mine set to a fixed channel of 36. Perhaps you should talk to Vodafone to setup a fixed channel for 5GHZ WiFi on your router, selecting a channel that is a New Zealand channel compatible with the VTV. It would be good to have @Sansom's comment on this and whether the 1500 MTU/MRU setting on the internet connection may be a cause and if Vodafone could try changing it to 1492.

Not too sure Ivan but I will have a look in the morning when I get home from work. I can tell you that I have no lagging when playing the crucible in destiny 2 on ps4 which will easily run on less than 10mbps but when I flick the input over to vtv the picture starts stuttering on vtv while the ps4 is connected to bungie servers through Ethernet. Usually it is easier to leave the ps4 connected via wifi. Im running on 100/20mbps. Seems strange that the vtv would require anything more than 50+mbps. I think this is a different issue to the problems we have stated in previous posts. Considering I leave the vtv box connected and on every night and only turn the tv off it seems at some point it just freezes up during the early hours or when I install an update.
I noticed while I was testing the VTV reboots at 2:00AM in the morning.
